How much does the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle cost?

Prices are up 7.13% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 281 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle a good car?

Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle. The overview points to a car that blends retro style with modern features, while also offering a roomier interior and more trunk space than earlier Beetles. It also had a premium-feeling cabin and a 2017 update that added revised styling and equipment improvements, which helps explain its appeal if you want something distinctive but still more usable than its looks suggest.

The market also shows 32.4% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview also notes that the Beetle does not have a standout reliability record, with engines and timing chains called out as potential trouble spots. That means used buyers should treat maintenance history and mechanical condition as especially important, since long-term ownership risk can rise quickly if those areas were neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Volkswagen Beetle?

At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put a pre-purchase inspection at the top of your checklist, with extra attention on engine condition, timing-chain-related concerns, and overall wear. Because the Beetle is more style-focused than practical, make sure the specific car you choose is clean, well maintained, and free of hidden issues.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Volkswagen Beetle?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best examples.

• Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 281 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 7.13% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 54.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,199, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?

The current average of $18,865 sits slightly above last year's $17,610.

That upward move suggests the Beetle is holding buyer interest well enough to support stronger pricing today than it did a year ago. For a future seller, that can be a positive sign if your car is clean, well maintained, and documented. The limited supply of accident-free examples can also help preserve value for the best-kept cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 7.13% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $19,650, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $18,865 average.
• It gets a final-year update with a new 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2017 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid deal availability. If you care more about the Beetle’s final-year significance and are willing to pay more, the 2018 is the better secondary path for shoppers who want the newest version.
