Summary
With 64 currently listed for sale near Fort Worth, TX and an average price of $9,827.00, 29.7% of 2017 Nissan Pathfinders for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder 4.4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder stands out as a family-focused SUV that bridges the gap between minivans and more rugged 4x4s. It is designed to handle everyday family-hauling duty while still offering all-wheel-drive capability when needed, which gives it a broader appeal than a typical people mover.
By 2017, the Pathfinder was in its fourth generation and had already moved to a car-based platform. That shift made it less rugged than it had been in the past, but it also helped Nissan maximize interior space, giving the Pathfinder plenty of cargo and passenger room. For buyers who want a roomy SUV that can cover a variety of road and driving conditions, that combination is a major part of its appeal.
Owners also tend to praise the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder for its comfort, features, and spaciousness, especially for families. At the same time, some concerns have been raised about steering issues and tire wear, so it is a vehicle that balances strong everyday usefulness with a few ownership caveats.

Very well equipped SUV. I love the fact that it has third row seating (that actually seems quite comfortable for short trips). The gas mileage on this is great for an older full-size SUV (25 mpg avg according to tripometer). The SL and Platinum both had leather interior, which is really nice and the seats were very comfortable. A great car for traveling!

If you find a listing below $10,967.62, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder a good car?
Generally — the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder earns a 4.4/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating, which points to a well-liked family SUV with broad appeal. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners most often praise its comfort, features, and spaciousness, especially for families. The overview also frames it as a roomy SUV that can handle everyday family-hauling duty while still offering all-wheel-drive capability when needed.
That combination makes it a strong fit if you want a practical three-row SUV that balances passenger space with all-weather usefulness. With 24.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you may also find some value if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder reliable?
Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a vehicle that many people find reliable and dependable in day-to-day family use, with praise centered on comfort, features, spaciousness, and smooth performance. The expert drive notes also describe it as a vehicle that can do everything asked of a family hauler, with a comfortable ride and useful traction options for rough weather or light off-pavement use.
The ownership tradeoff is that some buyers have reported steering issues and tire wear, so a used example is best approached with a careful inspection and a strong service-history review.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Pathfinder?
At 56.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven tire wear, steering feel, and evidence of consistent maintenance.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base S includes an 8-inch touchscreen, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, roof rails, push-button start, remote keyless entry, a reversing camera, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and three-zone automatic climate control. Higher trims add more convenience and comfort, with the SL bringing leather seating, a 360-degree camera system, heated front and rear seats, and a blind-spot warning system.
- Powertrain: It uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 284 horsepower, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. The setup is tuned for family use, with strong acceleration, a 6,000-pound towing capacity, and selectable drive modes for better traction.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes front and side impact airbags, Vehicle Dynamics Control with traction control, front and rear crumple zones, LATCH child-seat anchors, tire pressure monitoring, and Easy-Fill Tire Alert. Higher trims add features such as blind-spot warning, a 360-degree camera system, and forward-collision-avoidance equipment.
- Infotainment: The Pathfinder has an 8-inch touchscreen standard, and higher trims add navigation with real-time traffic and weather. It also includes redundant physical controls, Bluetooth calling, and USB ports, but it lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The available all-wheel-drive system can be switched to 2-wheel drive for better fuel economy, and the expert notes describe the setup as useful for traction in rough weather.
Which 2017 Nissan Pathfinder trim should I buy?
The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Pathfinder experience with the 8-inch touchscreen, three-zone climate control, a reversing camera, Bluetooth, and push-button start. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup and can live without the extra convenience and safety features found higher up.
- SV: This trim adds useful everyday upgrades like smart auto-on headlights, fog lights, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and backup sensors. It is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds comfort and convenience without jumping too far in price.
- SL: This is the trim to target if you want the most meaningful family-friendly upgrades, including a 360-degree camera system, leather seating, heated front and rear seats, a blind-spot warning system, and a motion-activated liftgate. It is the sweet spot for buyers who want a more premium feel and more confidence in tight parking situations.
- Platinum: This top trim adds the most luxury-oriented equipment, including 20-inch wheels, upgraded LED projector headlights, a panoramic moonroof, navigation with real-time traffic, heated and cooled front seats, wood-tone trim, forward-collision avoidance, and adaptive cruise control. Choose it if you want the most fully equipped Pathfinder.
The safety package is strongest on the higher trims, where blind-spot warning, forward-collision-avoidance, and adaptive cruise control become part of the appeal.

What is the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder's resale value?
The current average of $11,185 sits slightly below last year's $11,629.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A lower entry cost today can make it easier to preserve value later, especially if you choose a clean, well-kept example.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Optional safety tech includes forward-collision warning, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert, and those systems are described as Superior by the IIHS.
Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 24.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.82% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 refresh brings updated styling, a stronger 284-horsepower V6, and a 6,000-pound towing capacity.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $9,543, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $11,185 average.
- It is a straightforward choice for buyers who want everyday usefulness over a more distinctive personality.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2017 is the better pick thanks to its refreshed styling, stronger engine, and broad family-friendly appeal. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 can still make sense as a practical alternative, especially if you value utility over features.
