Is the 2017 Nissan Frontier reliable?

Owners rate it 4.08/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

For used buyers, that suggests the bigger risk is less about the model’s basic reputation and more about how well a specific truck has been maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Nissan Frontier?

At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body condition, frame and underbody signs, and evidence of uneven wear or poor repairs. Because this truck is often bought for work and durability, you should focus on how it was used and maintained, not just the odometer reading.

Should I buy a 2017 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.97% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.08/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $15,393, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $16,346 average.
• It offers a simple, familiar truck with small updates and a no-nonsense feel.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, demand, and owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the better starting point. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path and still keeps the Frontier’s core appeal intact.
