Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC earns a 4.86/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, smooth performance, and appealing features. The model also gets credit for its power and safety on long trips, which fits a luxury crossover that can work well as a daily driver or a more performance-focused choice depending on the version you pick.

The market also shows 37.2% good or great deals, so you have room to shop selectively while still finding attractive listings.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that can feel dependable and trouble-free for many owners, with praise centered on long-term satisfaction and the confidence it inspires on the road. At the same time, some owners reported reliability issues, including serious mechanical problems soon after purchase, so you should treat condition and maintenance history as especially important.

The expert review also describes the AMG version as engineered to high standards, which supports the idea that the vehicle can feel solid when properly maintained. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is that repair history may matter more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC?

At 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence of neglected maintenance, since those are the kinds of issues that can turn a good deal into an expensive one.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The AMG GLC 43 stands out for its AMG body styling, diamond-studded grille, split exhaust outlets, 21-inch wheels, and leather-and-wood cabin treatment, while the standard GLC 300 is the more straightforward choice if you want the core luxury-crossover experience without the performance hardware.
• Powertrain: The AMG GLC 43 uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 362 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque, paired with an AMG-tuned 9-speed automatic and performance-oriented 4Matic all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, drowsy-driver monitoring, a reversing camera, Pre-Safe, and blind-spot warning; the Premium 3 package adds adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, pedestrian detection, active lane-centering steering assist, active lane-keeping and blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic alert, rear-impact Pre-Safe preparation, and active LED headlights with automatic high-beam activation.
• Infotainment: Versions with navigation use an 8.4-inch screen, and the system includes Comand controls, handwriting recognition, and available Mbrace services; the optional Burmeister audio system and surround-view camera setup are also worth checking if equipped.
• Fuel efficiency: The AMG GLC 43 is rated at 20 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC is offered in 2 trim levels: GLC 300 and AMG GLC 43.

Here's the short version:

• GLC 300: This is the trim to target if you want the core GLC experience without paying for the AMG performance hardware. It’s the better-value choice for most shoppers because the review makes clear that the AMG version is overkill unless you plan to drive hard and fast regularly.
• AMG GLC 43: Choose this only if you want the performance-first character described in the review. It adds the twin-turbo V6, AMG-tuned transmission, performance brakes, adaptive air suspension, and more aggressive styling, but it comes with a much higher price and a less relaxed everyday driving experience.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but the Premium 3 option package adds several important driver-assistance features if you want the fullest safety and convenience setup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,067 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.47% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,477, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC's resale value?

The current average of $15,477 sits slightly below last year's $16,727.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that pricing pressure has been real, so condition, mileage, and equipment will matter a lot when it’s time to list the vehicle.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every GLC-Class comes standard with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, a drowsy-driver monitoring system, a reversing camera, Pre-Safe, and blind-spot warning. If you want the fullest driver-assistance suite, the Premium 3 package adds adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, pedestrian detection, active lane-centering steering assist, active lane-keeping and blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic alert, rear-impact Pre-Safe preparation, and active LED headlights with automatic high-beam activation.

There are no crash-test ratings cited here, so the safety picture rests on the standard equipment and the expert score. One caveat from testing is that the active LED headlights can be overly aggressive with high beams in some situations, so that’s worth keeping in mind if you drive a lot at night.

Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review says the AMG GLC 43 is a great fit if you want a performance SUV built for driving hard and fast, but less compelling as an everyday commuter.

The bottom line: If you want a used GLC now, the 2017 model makes sense when you value the current price drop, decent inventory, and strong owner satisfaction. If you’re price-sensitive, focus on the standard GLC 300 and shop condition carefully; if you want the performance personality, the AMG GLC 43 is the right path, but only if you’ll actually use what it offers.
