Is the 2017 Mazda CX-3 a good car?

Yes — 4.5/5 is a strong user rating for this model year. The 2017 CX-3 stands out as a small crossover with a premium feel and a driver-focused personality, and it was positioned as a compact option for buyers who want something upscale without moving up in size. It also came well equipped from the start, with features like LED headlights, keyless entry, and an 8.8-inch infotainment screen, while higher trims added conveniences such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, heated front seats, and a Bose audio system.

That mix of standard equipment and upscale presentation makes it appealing if you want a small SUV that feels more polished than many rivals. 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2017 CX-3’s appeal comes from its well-equipped cabin and Mazda’s emphasis on driver-focused design, which can make it feel like a more premium choice than many small crossovers. Its standard safety suite also adds confidence for everyday use.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the concept and more about finding one that has been cared for properly, since condition and maintenance history matter a lot in a compact crossover this age.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mazda CX-3?

At 56.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks bodywork, alignment, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal past collision issues.

Also focus on cabin condition and usability, because the CX-3’s small back seat and cargo area are part of the ownership tradeoff. Make sure the specific car you’re considering still feels clean, tight, and well maintained.

What is the 2017 Mazda CX-3's resale value?

The current average of $14,636 sits slightly above last year's $13,938.

That upward move suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. A stronger current price can help support your exit value, especially if you buy well and keep the vehicle in clean condition.

The CX-3’s compact size and upscale feel can help it stay appealing to shoppers looking for a small crossover with a premium edge. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Mazda CX-3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 5.01% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $15,182, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,636 average.
• It adds standard low-speed emergency braking and a quieter cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2017 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid satisfaction and decent deal availability. If you’re willing to pay more for added refinement and standard safety upgrades, the 2018 is the better secondary path.
