Used 2017 Lexus RX for Sale nearDetroit, MI

How much does the 2017 Lexus RX cost?

Prices have softened 3.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,287 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price and condition.

Is the 2017 Lexus RX a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Lexus RX earns a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its luxury features, comfort, smooth ride, and value for money. The RX also gets credit for its premium interior materials and polished daily-driving feel, which fit buyers who want refinement over a sportier SUV.

The trade-offs are limited cargo space and technology that can feel unintuitive, especially the Remote Touch Interface. That makes it a stronger fit if you value comfort, upscale materials, and an easygoing commute more than maximum utility or the most intuitive infotainment setup.

With 36.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Lexus RX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers repeatedly highlighting comfort, value, and a car they can count on over time. The expert notes also reinforce that impression by emphasizing the RX’s strong value proposition and Lexus’ reputation for reliability.

The RX also benefits from a maintenance perk in the expert notes: Lexus includes cash incentives for purchase and leasing when financing through Lexus, which can help lower early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right equipment and condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lexus RX?

At 57.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, equipment, and signs of prior repair quality rather than assuming every RX has the same ownership story.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base RX is described as more ordinary in the segment, while the F Sport package adds adaptive suspension, sport seats, 20-inch wheels, a unique gauge cluster, steering wheel, shifter, aluminum trim, sporty exterior trim, and ambient lighting. That makes the F Sport the more compelling choice if you want the most distinctive driving feel and appearance.
• Powertrain: The RX 350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 295 hp and 267 lb-ft, paired with an 8-speed automatic. It’s tuned more for ride quality than straight-line speed, with 0-60 mph in around 7.5 seconds and EPA estimates of 20 mpg city, 27 highway, and 23 combined.
• Safety package: The RX includes a standard Safety System + Package with dynamic cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and assist, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. Blind-spot monitoring is not standard, and the expert notes say adding it is a costly upgrade.
• Infotainment: The RX offers an 8-inch base display or an optional 12.3-inch panoramic HD display. Wireless smartphone integration is not mentioned, and the remote-touch interface is a recurring complaint because it can feel unintuitive.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 20 mpg city, 27 highway, and 23 combined.

Which 2017 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2017 Lexus RX is offered in 2 trim levels: RX 350 and RX 350 F Sport.

Here's the short version:

• RX 350: This is the better value if you want the RX’s core strengths — comfort, premium materials, and a smooth ride — without paying extra for the sportier hardware. It suits you best if you want a refined luxury crossover and can live with the base setup’s less exciting character.
• RX 350 F Sport: This is the trim to choose if you want the most complete RX experience. It adds adaptive suspension, sport seats, 20-inch wheels, and distinctive styling touches, and the expert notes make clear that the F Sport package meaningfully improves the driving experience. It’s the best-value pick if you want the RX to feel more special behind the wheel.

The standard Safety System + Package is included, but blind-spot monitoring is not standard and remains an upgrade.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lexus RX?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,287 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,231, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $23,790 sits slightly below last year's $24,678.

That softer pricing suggests the RX has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A lower entry point can reduce the amount of value left to lose over your ownership period.

The model’s strong reputation for comfort, value, and owner satisfaction should help keep demand steady among used buyers. That matters because vehicles with a loyal audience tend to hold their appeal better when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Lexus RX safe?

The 2017 Lexus RX earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA; it also earns four-star ratings in the individual overall front, driver front, and passenger front tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The RX comes with a standard Safety System + Package that includes dynamic cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and assist, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. The expert notes also mention rain-sensing wipers and auto-braking for the parking-assist system.

One caveat is that IIHS gave the headlights an Acceptable result, and blind-spot monitoring is not standard. That means the RX is strong on crash protection overall, but you should still pay close attention to the exact equipment on any used listing.

Should I buy a 2017 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 broadens F Sport availability and adds standard Safety System + Package equipment.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $22,072, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $23,790 average.
• It focuses on comfort and value with a smooth ride and broad appeal.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $26,564, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $23,790 average.
• It adds a third row for extra seating, making it more family-focused.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, comfort, and safety equipment, the 2017 is the smart default. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2016 can save you money, while the 2018 makes sense only if you specifically want the added seating and are willing to pay more for it.
