Why it stands out
The 2017 Lexus LX stands out as a full-size body-on-frame SUV that blends serious off-road hardware with the kind of luxury buyers expect from Lexus. It has a strong reputation for real off-road capability and reliability, and its go-anywhere character is backed by full-time four-wheel drive, a locking center differential, high-articulation suspension systems, Crawl Control, and Multi-Terrain Select. That combination gives it unusual confidence on sand, rocky terrain, and riverbeds without modifications.
Just as notable is how composed it remains on pavement. The LX is described as having smooth and quiet on-road manners, which helps explain its appeal to buyers who want rugged capability without giving up refinement. It also has a strong resale value, and its long-running reputation for standard safety features adds to its appeal. At the same time, it is not the most efficient or spacious choice in its class, and its technology can be unintuitive, so it is best suited to shoppers who value durability, comfort, and capability over maximum practicality or fuel economy.

Amazing vehicle! Has all the bells and whistles for a great family traveler, also everything you would want in a larger over lander, plus or minus a few modern technological creature comforts that can be a plus for people who are more about being disconnected as opposed to still attached to your devices. Couldn't have chosen a better vehicle!

Best SUV ever. It may cost much but the car is like a slab of Granite, solid and will last forever..

I have owned Lx 470, GS300, Lx 570 2011, Rex 350 2019 and currently Lx 570 2016. So yes, I am used to Lexus. I have also driven European cars. It was frustration that pushed me to Lexus after my two BMW (120D and 335x() each stranded me within two years. What frustrates me is the review from official websites like Edmunds, etc. The review of Lx 570 2016 (which I own currently) pales in comparison with my own experience. In fact, reading the review of the driving experience I wondered if they are paid to say something differently or just to make thing up as you go. Aside from the technical specifications, everything else they say about this car was just the opposite. It also make it impossible to trust them for other reviews. The bottom line is that this is a car that is reliable, dependable and you can own it for the next 20 years! You can decide never to sell it. It is not exaggerated, it is just worth the value. The Lexus badge sounds luxury, but for me, it is “reliability”. Literally, it will not breakdown so long as you maintain it. I traded my newer RX 350 (2019) for an older Lx 570 (2016) simply because the latter is superior and comfortable. I bought used one because it has more value for me. Even at 78,000 miles, it out performed all a the brand new European counterparts. We went on a trip and another friend had a brand new European and while he enjoyed the city limit, he didn’t have the comfort of an Lx 570 for a journey of over 6 hours. For us, we didn’t even feel the stress, it was just perfect. I have watched YouTube and other “professional” reviews but these are people who just borrow the car for a few hours to a few days or at most a week. This hardly constitute an experience and most of these reviews themselves are just somewhat “ideological”, that is, they have a company preference for a car that they promote and then they use the LX 570 as a strawman to make sure their preference looked good. Some of the cons are just nonsensical and you can see they are really trying hard to say something negative. The only car worth comparing is the Mercedes G wagon but if you compare the price then you find out that the Lx has unlimited value.

This car is as reliable and luxury laden as they come. Incredibly comfortable and its a genuine off road vehicle. I live part time in MT and do a lot of hunting and fishing and just poking around and this vehicle handles all the terrain with absolutely no effort. With the correct tires it will handle snow or mud with equal ease. The only drawback with this vehicle is the fuel consumption. Its capable of about 21m pg on a long drive but anything less than that is guaranteed to give you about 14.5 to 15 mpg.

Is the 2017 Lexus LX a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the 2017 Lexus LX fits buyers who want a luxury SUV with serious off-road hardware, a quiet ride, and a reputation for reliability. Its standard all-wheel drive, locking center differential, Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select, and high-articulation suspension give you capability that goes well beyond pavement, while the upscale cabin and comfortable ride keep it from feeling purely utilitarian. It is less compelling if you prioritize fuel economy, maximum interior space, or intuitive technology. With 36.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Lexus LX reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2017 Lexus LX is described as having a strong reputation for reliability, and its appeal is reinforced by its durable, body-on-frame construction and go-anywhere hardware. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic dependability and more about finding an example that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lexus LX?
At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important. You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then put inspection priority on signs of prior damage, uneven wear, and any evidence of rough off-road use. Focus on overall condition, because a luxury SUV with this much capability can hide hard miles better than a simpler vehicle.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lexus LX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and compare condition closely.
- Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 115 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 73.0% of listings are accident-free.
Should I buy a 2017 Lexus LX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 Lexus LX makes the most sense if you want a luxury SUV with real off-road ability, a comfortable ride, and strong owner satisfaction. If you are price-sensitive, a nearby year may still be worth considering, but you should keep the 2017 on your shortlist when condition, capability, and long-term appeal matter most.
