Used 2017 Land Rover Discovery for Sale near Virginia

How much does the 2017 Land Rover Discovery cost?

Prices have softened 16.86% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 261 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert rating of 7.83/10. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

The Discovery is positioned as a luxury SUV that handles like a sedan, carries more than a crossover, and still goes off road like a Land Rover. It also brings a strong equipment story, with a panoramic glass roof and plenty of wood and leather even at the base price, while the more equipped versions add seven-passenger seating and the latest safety technology.

That mix makes it especially appealing if you want one vehicle to cover commuting, family duty, and trail use without moving up to a much larger SUV. 40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Discovery’s all-new unibody construction with lightweight aluminum components points to a more modern, refined design than the older LR4 it replaces. The expert evaluation also notes that Land Rover has a much better track record for reliability these days, which helps the case for this model year.

Its diesel option adds a useful efficiency advantage, and the cost-effectiveness notes highlight that the warranty runs for only 4 years or 50,000 miles. For used buyers, that means you should pay close attention to maintenance history and remaining coverage, because long-term ownership risk rises once factory protection is gone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Land Rover Discovery?

At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with added equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the truck’s luxury and off-road features still operate as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SE comes well equipped with a panoramic glass roof and wood and leather, but the HSE adds LED headlights, parking assist, navigation, 20-inch wheels, and an upgraded sound system, while the HSE Luxury adds standard electronic air suspension, three-zone climate control, and a 14-speaker sound system.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 340-horsepower supercharged gasoline V6 or an optional 254-horsepower diesel. The gas engine is quicker, while the diesel brings better efficiency and more low-end torque for off-road driving.
• Safety package: The Discovery comes standard with front, side, and curtain airbags that also deploy in a rollover crash. Blind-spot detection, automatic parking assist, a driver condition monitor, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control are available, but they’re optional and some are tied to higher trims.
• Infotainment: InControl TouchPro is the main interface, and it can run select apps off your phone and support remote vehicle monitoring and service reminders. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available.
• Fuel efficiency: The gasoline engine gets 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, while the diesel is rated at 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

Which 2017 Land Rover Discovery trim should I buy?

The 2017 Land Rover Discovery is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, HSE, HSE Luxury.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the Discovery’s core luxury feel with a panoramic glass roof plus wood and leather. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting cost, but you should know that the diesel engine isn’t available here and blind-spot detection isn’t either.
• HSE: This is the best-value trim because it remedies the SE’s biggest gaps while adding LED headlights, parking assist, navigation, 20-inch wheels, and an upgraded sound system. It’s also the first trim where you can order the diesel and the available safety tech.
• HSE Luxury: This is the most upscale choice, adding standard electronic air suspension, three-zone climate control, and a 14-speaker sound system. If you want the most comfort and the richest feature set, this is the one to target.

Safety features such as blind-spot detection, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and the driver condition monitor are optional rather than standard, so check each listing carefully.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Land Rover Discovery?

It looks like a buyer’s market, with enough inventory and price softness to give you negotiating room.

• Deal availability: 40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 261 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.86% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,184, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery's resale value?

The current average of $14,193 sits slightly below last year's $17,071.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation curve.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Discovery comes standard with front, side, and curtain airbags that also deploy in a rollover crash. Buyers can also order blind-spot detection, automatic parking assist, a driver condition monitor, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control, though these features are optional and some are tied to higher trims.

Because there are no NHTSA or IIHS crash-test ratings cited for this model year, you should lean more heavily on the available safety equipment and the condition of the specific vehicle you’re considering. If a listing lacks the optional driver-assistance features you want, it may be worth waiting for a better-equipped example.

Should I buy a 2017 Land Rover Discovery or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the year the Discovery returned to the U.S. with a luxury-focused, unibody design that still delivers serious off-road ability.

The bottom line: The 2017 Discovery makes the most sense if you want the first U.S.-market version of this modernized, luxury-oriented SUV and you can find one with the right equipment and a clean history. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the softened market and decent inventory make this a good year to shop carefully and negotiate hard.
