Used 2017 Land Rover Discovery for Sale nearColumbus, OH

How much does the 2017 Land Rover Discovery cost?

Prices have softened 18.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 267 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery a good car?

Yes — it earns 4.5/5 from users and 7.8/10 from experts. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

The Discovery is framed as a luxury SUV that blends capability with refinement, and it’s described as the most capable and luxurious seven-passenger vehicle in its class. It handles like a sedan, carries more than a crossover, and still goes off road like a Land Rover, so it fits you well if you want a roomy family SUV with real utility and off-road ability. The market also shows 33.7% good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive listings to chase.

Is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Discovery’s overview says Land Rover has a much better track record for reliability these days, and the expert notes reinforce that this is a well-equipped luxury SUV rather than a stripped-down model. Its performance story also points to a strong engineering base, with lightweight aluminum components and a unibody structure that help it feel more modern than the older LR4. The cost-effectiveness notes add that the warranty is good for only 4 years or 50,000 miles, so used buyers should pay close attention to remaining coverage and overall condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Land Rover Discovery?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this SUV can be expensive to repair if prior damage or neglected maintenance is hiding underneath the surface. Focus on overall condition, equipment operation, and whether the vehicle has the options you want, since many examples were sold with added packages and seating configurations. If you’re shopping for a used one, make sure the listing matches the way you plan to use it.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model comes well equipped with a panoramic glass roof plus wood and leather, while higher-spec versions add seating for seven, the latest safety technology, and better gas mileage than expected. The HSE and HSE Luxury bring more equipment, but the base SE can leave you wanting if you need more advanced features.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 340-horsepower supercharged gasoline V6, and there’s also an optional 254-horsepower diesel that returns better fuel economy and more low-end torque for off-road driving.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot detection, automatic parking assist, a driver condition monitor, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. These features are optional, and some are not available on the SE.
• Infotainment: InControl TouchPro can run select apps from your phone and includes remote vehicle monitoring and service reminders. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available.
• Fuel efficiency: The gasoline engine gets 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, while the diesel is rated at 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

Which 2017 Land Rover Discovery trim should I buy?

The 2017 Land Rover Discovery is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, HSE, HSE Luxury.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it already brings the Discovery’s core luxury feel with a panoramic glass roof, wood, and leather. It’s the trim to consider if you want the lowest starting point, but you may need to add options to get the seating and capability setup many shoppers expect.
• HSE: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it remedies key SE gaps and adds LED headlights, parking assist, navigation, 20-inch wheels, and an upgraded sound system. It also opens the door to more of the active safety equipment, though those features remain optional.
• HSE Luxury: This is the one to choose if you want the most upscale version, with standard electronic air suspension, three-zone climate control, and a 14-speaker sound system. It’s the most complete trim if you want the Discovery at its most refined.

Safety features remain optional on the HSE and above, so check each listing carefully for the driver-assistance equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Land Rover Discovery?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 267 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.88% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,894, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery's resale value?

The current average of $13,894 sits slightly below last year's $17,129.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value than someone who pays near the top of the range. The softer market also means future resale will depend heavily on mileage, condition, and equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Land Rover Discovery safe?

The 2017 Land Rover Discovery has not been rated by NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front, side, and curtain airbags that also deploy in a rollover crash. If you step up to the HSE model, you can order blind-spot detection, automatic parking assist, a driver condition monitor, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control, but those features are always optional. That means you should verify the exact equipment on any used example, especially if safety tech matters to you.

Should I buy a 2017 Land Rover Discovery or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out as a luxury SUV that handles like a sedan, carries more than a crossover, and still goes off road like a Land Rover.

The bottom line: If you want the Discovery’s blend of luxury, space, and genuine off-road ability, the 2017 is a compelling choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can use the softer market to target a well-equipped example rather than settling for the cheapest one you find.
