How much does the 2017 Kia Sportage cost?

Prices have softened 4.32% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,049 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Kia Sportage a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Kia Sportage earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfort, handling, and features like the panoramic sunroof and safety technology. They also call out its good value and reliability compared with other brands, which fits the Sportage’s role as a compact crossover that aims to be practical without feeling dull. In use, that means you’re looking at a model that blends everyday utility with a more distinctive personality than many rivals.

With 29.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Kia Sportage reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability and good value compared with other brands, and it also suggests the Sportage is a vehicle many people feel confident keeping for the long haul. The expert evaluation also emphasizes peace of mind through Kia’s long warranty coverage, which supports the case for dependable ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure prior maintenance and wear items were handled properly, since a strong reputation does not replace a careful inspection.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Sportage?

At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific trim you’re considering. Because this model was sold with meaningful equipment differences across trims, it pays to verify the exact configuration before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the least equipped, while the EX adds more convenience and tech, and the SX Turbo brings the most power and the most upscale feel. The base model also misses out on some of the higher-tech safety equipment, so you should compare feature content carefully if you want the best value.
• Powertrain: The LX and EX use a 2-liter 4-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, while the SX Turbo uses a turbocharged 2-liter four with 240 horsepower in front-wheel-drive form and 237 horsepower with all-wheel drive. The base engine is described as lackluster off the line, while the turbo is quick.
• Safety package: The Sportage includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning and avoidance. Adaptive cruise control is not available, and the base model cannot be equipped with the high-tech safety suite.
• Infotainment: The base touchscreen is 5 inches, with 7- and 8-inch screens available. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are optional on the LX and standard on the EX and SX Turbo, and UVO eServices adds connected features such as roadside assistance and parking-location reminders.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine returns 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway with front-wheel drive, or 21 mpg city and 25 mpg highway with all-wheel drive. The turbo engine returns 21 mpg city and 26 mpg highway with front-wheel drive, or 20 mpg city and 23 mpg highway with all-wheel drive.

Which 2017 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Sportage is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, EX, SX Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable with a simpler feature set. It still gives you the Sportage’s core personality, but you should check carefully for the tech and safety equipment you want because the base model misses some of the higher-end content.
• EX: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds more convenience and tech while staying below the top trim. It also gets standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which makes it the most balanced pick if you want a well-equipped daily driver without paying for the turbo model.
• SX Turbo: Choose this if you want the strongest performance and the most fully loaded version of the Sportage. It brings the turbocharged engine, paddle shifters, and the most premium-feeling setup, so it suits you best if driving enjoyment matters as much as features.

The safety package is available, but not on the base model.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Sportage?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,049 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.32% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,969, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $11,026 sits slightly below last year's $11,524.

That decline suggests the Sportage has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A softer market today can also make it easier to find a clean example without overpaying, which matters when you eventually go to resell. If demand stays steady, a well-kept Sportage with the right equipment should remain reasonably marketable.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Sportage safe?

The 2017 Kia Sportage is a 2017 Top Safety Pick from IIHS and earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Sportage comes with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning and avoidance, a reversing camera, traction control, and the usual airbag and child-seat hardware. The base model cannot be equipped with the high-tech safety suite, and adaptive cruise control is not available at all. One caveat is that IIHS gave it an Acceptable score for LATCH ease of use and a Poor score for headlight testing.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out for bold styling, a sporty ride, great technology, and solid value.

The bottom line: If you want the Sportage with a strong mix of value, personality, and equipment, the 2017 is a sensible place to shop. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still find attractive listings in this market, but you should be selective about condition and trim because the best-equipped versions make the biggest difference in day-to-day satisfaction.
