Is the 2017 Kia Cadenza a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Kia Cadenza earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxury feel, strong value for the money, and abundance of features. They also highlight the spacious cabin and the safety technologies that make everyday driving more comfortable. In practical terms, that lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a full-size sedan that aims to feel upscale without asking you to chase a luxury badge.

The market also shows 27.8% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Kia Cadenza reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable, with praise centered on its luxury feel, value, and features rather than recurring complaints. The expert review also frames Kia ownership as cost effective and notes the brand’s strong warranty and roadside-assistance coverage, which supports the case for low-stress ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about a known mechanical weakness and more about finding a well-kept example that has been maintained consistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Kia Cadenza?

At 58.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, electronics, and interior condition. Because this car is positioned as an upscale full-size sedan, you’ll want to make sure the features that matter to you are working properly and that any prior damage was repaired cleanly. It’s also smart to compare trim equipment carefully, since some of the most desirable comfort and safety features are not standard on every version.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Premium model adds a blind-spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors, while the Technology and Limited versions add a larger 8-inch screen, navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and a more upscale appearance with the concave grille. If you want the best value, the Technology trim is the one to focus on because it brings the most meaningful equipment upgrades without going all the way to the top trim.
• Powertrain: Every Cadenza has a 290-horsepower, 3.3-liter V6 engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. It is tuned for a smooth, predictable driving experience, and the EPA says it should return 23 mpg in combined driving.
• Safety package: The Technology trim adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, smarter blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, and lane-change prevention. The Premium trim gets a smaller safety step-up, so you’ll want to verify which driver-assistance features are included before you buy.
• Infotainment: Premium models have a 7-inch display, while Technology and Limited models get an 8-inch screen, navigation, wireless smartphone charging, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and UVO eServices.
• Fuel efficiency: The Cadenza is rated at 20 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined, and the test vehicle slightly exceeded its combined estimate.

Which 2017 Kia Cadenza trim should I buy?

The 2017 Kia Cadenza is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Technology, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the Cadenza’s core upscale character along with a reversing camera. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but you’ll miss out on several of the more desirable convenience and safety upgrades.
• Technology: This is the best-value trim. It adds the larger 8-inch screen, navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and the most important driver-assistance upgrades, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and enhanced blind-spot monitoring features.
• Limited: This is the most fully equipped version, with premium Nappa leather, quilt-stitched bolsters, perforated inserts, and the richest cabin presentation. Choose it if you want the most luxury-oriented Cadenza and are willing to pay for it.

The safety-package upgrades are concentrated in the Technology trim, so that’s the one most shoppers should target.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Kia Cadenza?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 79 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.33% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,317, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Kia Cadenza's resale value?

The current average of $11,487 sits slightly below last year's $12,810.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to preserve value than someone who pays near the top of the range. The fact that the model has strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Kia Cadenza safe?

The 2017 Kia Cadenza earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes with a reversing camera, and the Premium model can be upgraded with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking-assist sensors. The Technology trim adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-change assist, and lane-change prevention through a smarter blind-spot monitoring system.

One important caveat is that crash testing had not been performed on this model at the time of the review, so you should lean heavily on the available driver-assistance equipment and the condition of the specific vehicle you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2017 Kia Cadenza or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review says there is nothing particularly wrong with the redesigned Cadenza, but it also notes that the car is not especially memorable, which makes this year a sensible pick if you value comfort and value over standout character.

The bottom line: If you want a well-equipped full-size sedan with strong owner satisfaction and a softer used-car price, the 2017 is a reasonable choice. If you’re shopping mainly on price, you can be selective and wait for a clean, well-priced example; if you want the most compelling equipment mix, focus on the Technology trim rather than stretching for the top trim.
