How much does the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 8.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,347 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.77/5, and our experts give it an 8.5/10. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, spacious interior, and luxury features, and they also call out its performance, safety, and towing capability. That lines up well with the Grand Cherokee’s role as a vehicle that tries to balance upscale comfort with Jeep’s rugged identity. If you want an SUV that can feel premium without losing its capability-first personality, this model year fits that brief well.

The market also shows 31.4% of listings priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle people feel good about living with over time, especially because they repeatedly mention comfort, performance, safety, and towing in positive terms. That kind of broad approval usually matters more than a single standout feature when you’re trying to judge day-to-day dependability. The expert drive notes also reinforce the Grand Cherokee’s well-rounded character and its ability to handle both commuting and trail use with confidence.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that some examples may have been used hard or maintained inconsistently, so condition and service history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or heavily optioned example. Focus on signs of wear that could affect comfort, electronics, and suspension behavior, since those are the areas that can separate a clean, well-kept SUV from one that has been neglected. If you’re shopping for capability, make sure the equipment on the specific listing matches the way you plan to use it.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from Laredo to Summit, with the Laredo serving as the base trim and coming with fog lights, halogen quad headlights, 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a USB port, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. Higher trims add leather seating, heated seats, a panoramic moonroof, larger wheels, and more upscale lighting and exterior details, so the biggest question is how much comfort and luxury equipment you want.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 293 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission. You can also get a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 360 horsepower or a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 with 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The base 4-wheel-drive system lacks the four-low option many drivers want, while the more advanced systems add low-range capability.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front and side impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and a reversing camera. Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and self-parking. Some of those features are optional rather than standard, so check the exact build carefully.
• Infotainment: The base setup is the Uconnect 5.0 touchscreen on the Laredo and Limited. It includes climate controls, stereo menus, settings, and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity. Higher trims get the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect screen, which adds a more advanced interface and voice-command capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The available 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 makes 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, while the base 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 makes 293 horsepower. The source does not state MPG or MPGe figures.

Which 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 6 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and Trailhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it gives you the essentials without much luxury content. It makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core capability and styling at the lowest starting point.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather seating, power-adjustable front seats, heated front and second-row seats, and a more upscale exterior treatment without jumping into the highest price brackets.
• Altitude: This trim is part of the lineup, but the source does not provide enough detail to separate it clearly from the others here.
• Trailhawk: This is the most trail-focused choice, with unique 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, skid plates, a matte black hood, red tow hooks, Quadra-Drive II 4-wheel drive, air suspension tuned for articulation, and Selec-Speed control. It suits you best if off-road use is a real priority.
• Overland: This trim leans into comfort and tech with LED fog lights, automatic high beams, a dual-pane panoramic moonroof, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, rain-sensing wipers, perforated Nappa leather, and the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen.
• Summit: This is the most upscale-feeling trim in the lineup, with headlight washers, unique 20-inch wheels, chrome inserts, LED fog lamps, an exclusive fascia design, and the Harman Kardon audio system.

The safety package includes standard airbags, stability control, hill-start assist, and a reversing camera, while forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and self-parking are available.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,347 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.83% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,343, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $14,343 sits slightly below last year's $15,732.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that a well-kept example with the right equipment should still be easier to move than a neglected one, especially because shoppers continue to value the Grand Cherokee’s mix of comfort and capability. Strong condition, clean history, and desirable trim content matter more when the broader market is already softer.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 5-star Overall crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It also earns a best score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in moderate overlap front, side, rear, and roof-strength crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front and side impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and a reversing camera. You can also get forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and self-parking. The main caveat is that several useful driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used listing.

Should I buy a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out for blending comfort, capability, and a more premium feel in a way few SUVs try to balance.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,211, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,343 average.
• It appeals to buyers who want broad capability, strong towing potential, and Jeep styling.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, comfort, and capability, the 2017 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path, but you give up some of the current year’s market positioning and appeal.
