How much does the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 8.44% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,334 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and luxury features, and many also value its performance and towing capability. That lines up well with the model’s broad mission: you get an SUV that can feel upscale while still fitting Jeep’s off-road identity. If you want something with a premium feel and real capability, this year’s Grand Cherokee fits that use case well.

The market also shows 30.3% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially because they repeatedly mention comfort, performance, and towing confidence. The same feedback also suggests you can count on it for the kind of all-around usefulness buyers expect from a Grand Cherokee. Jeep’s performance tuning and capability focus reinforce that dependable, do-it-all character.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific example you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 60.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this model is often bought for comfort and capability, condition matters a lot: pay close attention to how the cabin wears, how the drivetrain feels, and whether the vehicle has been used in a way that matches its intended purpose. If you’re comparing multiple listings, focus on the cleanest example rather than just the lowest price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Laredo is the base trim and comes with fog lights, halogen quad headlights, 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a USB port, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. The Limited adds leather seating, power-adjustable front seats, heated front and second-row seats, 18-inch polished wheels, and a body-colored front fascia with bright insert. The Overland adds LED fog lights, automatic high beams, a dual-pane panoramic moonroof, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, rain-sensing wipers, perforated Nappa leather, and the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. The Summit adds headlight washers, unique 20-inch wheels, chrome inserts, LED fog lamps, and an exclusive fascia design. The Trailhawk stands out with 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, skid plates, a matte black hood, and red tow hooks.
• Powertrain: The base engine is a 3.6-liter V6 with 293 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission. You can also get a 5.7-liter V8 with 360 horsepower or a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 with 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is available, along with multiple 4-wheel-drive systems, including a base setup that lacks four-low.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front and side impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and a reversing camera. Available driver assistance includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and self-parking. Some features are not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: The base system is the Uconnect 5.0 touchscreen on the Laredo and Limited. The Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit get the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect screen. The system is easy to use and supports Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, while higher trims add premium audio.
• Fuel efficiency: No MPG or MPGe figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 6 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and SRT performance trims.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Grand Cherokee experience with fog lights, halogen quad headlights, dual-zone automatic temperature control, a USB port, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting point and are comfortable with the most basic equipment.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds leather seating, power-adjustable front seats, heated front and second-row seats, and the larger comfort upgrades that make daily use feel more upscale.
• Overland: Choose this if you want a more premium cabin, since it adds the panoramic moonroof, perforated Nappa leather, rain-sensing wipers, and the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen.
• Summit: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with unique exterior details, headlight washers, and upgraded audio, so it suits you if you want the most polished feel.
• SRT performance trims: This is the choice for buyers who want the performance-focused version of the Grand Cherokee lineup.

The safety package includes standard airbags, stability control, hill-start assist, and a reversing camera, with additional driver-assistance features available on higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,334 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.44% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,140, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $14,140 sits slightly below last year's $15,443.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may temper what a future seller can expect. If you buy well now, you’re starting from a more favorable entry point than last year’s average. The model’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should still help support demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 5-star Overall crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It also earns a best score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in moderate overlap front, side, rear, and roof-strength crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front and side impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and a reversing camera. You can also get forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and self-parking. The main caveat is that several of those features are optional rather than standard, so trim choice matters if safety tech is important to you.

Should I buy a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.44% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The Trailhawk stands out as a particularly strong expression of the Grand Cherokee’s off-road character.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $12,947, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,140 average.
• It offers broad capability and strong Jeep styling appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, capability, and owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly alternative and still delivers the Grand Cherokee’s core strengths.
