Is the 2017 Jaguar XE a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Jaguar XE earns a 4.58/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Safety.

You’re looking at a compact luxury sedan that’s aimed at shoppers who want a sport-sedan feel in a relatively affordable segment. Drivers consistently praise its striking looks, sporty performance, and luxurious features, along with the comfortable, fun driving experience it delivers. The market also reflects solid interest, with 32.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2017 Jaguar XE reliable?

Owners rate it 4.58/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter most to shoppers in this class: strong acceleration, smooth handling, and a comfortable driving experience that owners enjoy over time. The expert evaluation also describes the XE as a competent sport sedan with a solid chassis and body structure, which supports confidence in day-to-day use.

Jaguar’s 5-year/60,000-mile warranty, including all scheduled maintenance, is a meaningful ownership perk if you’re buying used and want some added protection against early-life repair costs.

For a used buyer, the main long-term risk is that the XE’s appeal depends on finding one that has been cared for well, since electronics and space-related compromises can affect ownership satisfaction.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Jaguar XE?

At 72.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a long option list. Pay close attention to body condition, electronics behavior, and whether the car’s equipment works as intended, since the XE’s appeal depends heavily on its mix of style, performance, and features.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base version is the most stripped-down, while higher trims add more luxury and convenience equipment; the top R-Sport trim also brings standard driver-assistance features that are optional on other trims.
• Powertrain: You can find a diesel 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder, a gasoline 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, or a supercharged 3.0-liter V6, and the V6 is the strongest match for the chassis.
• Safety package: Forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver fatigue alert are standard in the top R-Sport trim and optional on others.
• Infotainment: The 10.2-inch screen supports touch and swiping gestures, but the system has software bugs and can be frustrating to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The diesel is rated at 32 mpg city and 42 highway in rear-wheel-drive form, while gas models are rated at 21/30 for the rear-wheel-drive four-cylinder and V6, and 20/29 for the AWD V6.

Which 2017 Jaguar XE trim should I buy?

The 2017 Jaguar XE is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Premium, Prestige, and R-Sport.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the XE’s styling and driving character at the lowest price, but it leaves you with the fewest features.
• Premium: This is the trim to start with if you want a better balance of equipment and value without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Prestige: This is the best-value trim if you want a more upscale feel and more of the XE’s luxury appeal without going all the way to the top.
• R-Sport: This is the trim to choose if you want the most complete safety package, since forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver fatigue alert are standard here.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Jaguar XE?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 130 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.26% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,838, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Jaguar XE's resale value?

The current average of $11,838 sits slightly below last year's $12,765.

That price movement suggests the XE has softened in the near term, which can work against you if you’re planning to sell soon. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s higher level. The strongest resale outcomes will likely come from well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.58/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Jaguar XE safe?

The 2017 Jaguar XE has not been rated by either the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Jaguar’s safety content highlights optional blind-spot monitoring that flashes alerts in each side-view mirror if a fast-moving car approaches from behind. Forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and a driver fatigue alert are standard in the top R-Sport trim and optional on others. Adaptive cruise control, 360-degree cameras, and automatic parking are also available as options.

Should I buy a 2017 Jaguar XE or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.26% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.58/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 XE is positioned as Jaguar’s effort to rebuild its image in a compact luxury sedan segment, with a strong emphasis on sporty character and upscale appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the XE’s styling, performance, and luxury feel at a softened price, the 2017 is the year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the lower end of the current range and prioritize condition, history, and feature content over chasing the cheapest example.
