CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Honda Ridgeline
overall

Summary
With 37 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,691, 35.1% of 2017 Honda Ridgeline listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Honda Ridgeline 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Honda Ridgeline stands out because it is the industry’s only unibody pickup, which makes it one of the most unusual light-duty trucks on sale. Honda’s own description captures the appeal well: it is a pickup that feels entirely like a car, and that carlike character is a big part of what makes it distinctive. For buyers who want truck utility without the usual truck feel, that combination is the Ridgeline’s defining trait.
It also has a practical side that helps explain why owners respond well to it. The available owner feedback highlights a smooth ride, comfort, a spacious interior, and innovative cargo solutions such as the under-bed trunk. Those strengths make the 2017 Honda Ridgeline appealing as a versatile everyday vehicle, especially for shoppers who value convenience and refinement as much as hauling ability.
At the same time, the same owner feedback suggests a couple of tradeoffs. Some drivers think it is priced too high compared with other trucks, and some would like more advanced technology in the entertainment system. That balance of unusual design, everyday comfort, and a few perceived shortcomings is what gives the 2017 Honda Ridgeline its character.

We were looking for a truck for light hauling. Not for off-road. And I didn’t want to truck that looked all tricked out and masculine. I wanted a smooth ride, and a functional truck. We ruled out other midsize trucks because they rode like a truck. And as a passenger, the ride was unsettling. I prefer a ride like butter. Then we found the Honda Ridgeline. Because it is built different than the other midsize trucks, basically a truck body or an SUV base, it rides as smooth as silk. It doesn’t look like I’m trying to be young, or masculine or tough. It’s a classy looking little truck. The electronics inside blow me away. All of the safety features, and the space inside the backseat. It was exactly what we were looking for. I just didn’t know it existed until I found the Ridgeline.

Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.88/5, and the expert rating is 7.5/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, comfort, spacious interior, and practical cargo solutions like the under-bed trunk. That lines up well with the Ridgeline’s role as a truck that feels carlike, especially if you want everyday refinement and versatility more than traditional pickup toughness.
The market also shows 31.8% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience centered on comfort, practicality, and everyday usefulness. The expert drive notes reinforce that impression with a smooth, composed ride and strong on-road manners that make it easy to count on for daily use.
Honda also emphasizes the Ridgeline’s robust body structure and reinforced cab, which adds confidence for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the truck’s basic character and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been used hard.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?
At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for hauling or towing. Focus on body condition, signs of repair quality, and whether the truck’s practical features still work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Ridgeline comes only as a 4-door Crew cab with a 5-foot, 4-inch bed, and the cabin is described as upscale with high-quality materials, soft-touch surfaces, and useful cubbies and trays. Higher trims add more premium touches, including extra noise-canceling insulation, heated power front seats, LED headlamps with LED running lamps, remote start, red ambient lighting, and an 8-speaker 540-watt stereo.
- Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque paired with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional, and the AWD system adds torque-vectoring capability plus selectable modes for paved roads, mud, sand, and snow.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, and LaneWatch is also available, but those features are restricted to top trims.
- Infotainment: The truck uses an 8-inch touchscreen with HondaLink, reconfigurable tiles, Garmin navigation with live traffic and pinch-to-zoom, single-string voice recognition, and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The FWD version is EPA-rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while AWD versions are rated at 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
Which 2017 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?
The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 7 trim levels: RT, RTS, Sport, RTL, RTL-T, RTL-E, Black Edition.
Here's the short version:
- RT: This is the entry point, and it makes the Ridgeline’s core appeal accessible if you mainly want the carlike ride, V6 power, and Crew cab practicality without paying for extra luxury or tech.
- RTS: This trim adds a step up in equipment while staying closer to the value end of the lineup, making it a sensible choice if you want more comfort and convenience without moving too far up the price ladder.
- Sport: This is the best-value trim if you want a more distinctive look and a stronger feature mix than the base model without jumping into the pricier upper trims.
- RTL: This is the trim to target if you want a more upscale daily driver, since it builds on the Ridgeline’s comfort and practicality with a more premium feel.
- RTL-T: This trim adds more equipment and is a good fit if you want a richer feature set while still staying below the top luxury-oriented versions.
- RTL-E: This is where the Ridgeline becomes especially well equipped, and it is also one of the trims where AWD is standard.
- Black Edition: This is the most fully loaded version, with the darkest styling treatment and the richest equipment list, and AWD is standard here as well.
Honda Sensing is included on the truck, but blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and LaneWatch are restricted to top trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and still find a decent deal.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 484 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.68% compared with last year.

What is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?
The current average of $18,860 sits slightly below last year's $19,996.
That decline suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now and keep the truck in good condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline safe?
The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is expected to earn a five-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, though it has not yet been crash-tested.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, and LaneWatch is also available, but those features are restricted to top trims.
Honda also says the body structure is 28 percent more rigid and that the cab is reinforced to help keep a 1,000-pound object in the bed from intruding into the cabin during a frontal collision.
Should I buy a 2017 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.68% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert summary highlights the Ridgeline as a carlike pickup that stands apart from traditional trucks.
The bottom line: If you want the Ridgeline’s distinctive blend of comfort, practicality, and truck utility, the 2017 is a strong year to target, especially if you find one with clean history and a price near the lower end of the range. If you’re more price-sensitive, keep shopping listings closely and focus on the best-maintained examples rather than chasing the cheapest truck on the lot.
