Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Honda Ridgeline earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, comfort, spacious interior, and practical cargo solutions like the under-bed trunk. That lines up with the Ridgeline’s use case as a truck that feels carlike, especially if you want everyday refinement and utility rather than a traditional rough-and-ready pickup. Even so, some shoppers feel it is priced too high and want more advanced infotainment.

With 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is enough market flexibility to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers describing the Ridgeline as a vehicle they can count on for daily use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Honda’s ability to make an unconventional concept work well, which supports the impression of solid long-term usability. Honda’s maintenance-friendly ownership approach is reinforced by the truck’s practical design and everyday comfort.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the truck’s condition and equipment level match the price you pay.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?

At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body repairs, alignment, and signs of prior damage. Because this model is valued for comfort and utility, you should also pay close attention to interior condition, cargo-area wear, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific truck you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Ridgeline comes only as a 4-door Crew cab with a 5-foot, 4-inch bed, and the cabin is described as upscale with high-quality materials, soft-touch surfaces, and useful storage trays and cubbies. Base versions are less lavish than top trims, which add features like extra insulation, LED lighting, heated power front seats, remote start, and a stronger audio system.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque paired with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional on most trims, and the truck is tuned more for smooth on-road driving than heavy-duty work.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, and LaneWatch is also available, but those features are restricted to top trims.
• Infotainment: The truck uses an 8-inch touchscreen with HondaLink, reconfigurable tiles, Garmin navigation with live traffic and pinch-to-zoom, and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is simple and clear, though the glossy surface can be hard to read in sunlight.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD version is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while AWD drops to 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Which 2017 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 7 trim levels: RT, RTS, Sport, RTL, RTL-T, RTL-E, Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• RT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Ridgeline’s core strengths without the higher price of the better-equipped trims. It makes sense if you want the basic carlike ride, V6 power, and Crew cab layout at the lowest cost.
• RTS: This trim adds more comfort and convenience than the RT while staying below the more expensive luxury-oriented versions. It is a sensible middle ground if you want a better-equipped daily driver without stretching too far.
• Sport: This trim is aimed at shoppers who want a more distinctive look and a stronger feature set than the base truck. It is a good fit if you want the Ridgeline’s utility with a bit more visual presence.
• RTL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it moves the Ridgeline into a more upscale comfort zone without jumping all the way to the top-end models. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to focus on.
• RTL-T: This trim adds more convenience and tech-oriented equipment, making it a better choice if you want a more modern-feeling cabin. It suits buyers who plan to spend a lot of time in the truck and want extra amenities.
• RTL-E: This is where the Ridgeline becomes especially well equipped, and AWD is standard here. It is a strong pick if you want more capability and a richer feature set without going all the way to the Black Edition.
• Black Edition: This is the top trim, with the most distinctive appearance and the richest equipment list. It is the right choice if you want the most premium Ridgeline experience and do not mind paying for it.

Honda Sensing is available on higher trims, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is restricted to top trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 493 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.58% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,621, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?

The current average of $18,621 sits slightly below last year's $19,933.

That softer pricing suggests the Ridgeline is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly, which can make it easier for future buyers to negotiate. If you own one and keep it in strong condition, the truck’s practical appeal and distinctive design should help it remain attractive to shoppers who want comfort and utility in one package. The current market also shows that well-priced examples still draw attention, which supports resale stability.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline safe?

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda says the Ridgeline is expected to earn a five-star crash-test rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS, but it has not yet been crash-tested. Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also available, along with LaneWatch on higher trims.

One caveat is that the strongest driver-assistance features are restricted to top trims, so you should verify exactly which safety equipment is on the truck you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2017 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 model stands out for its unusual unibody pickup design, carlike ride, and practical cargo solutions like the under-bed trunk.

The bottom line: If you want the Ridgeline’s distinctive blend of comfort, utility, and everyday drivability, the 2017 is a strong choice. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-maintained examples and compare them carefully against nearby model years to see whether a newer truck’s added features justify the extra cost.
