How much does the 2017 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 6.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,515 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Honda Pilot earns a 4.77/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, spaciousness, and tech features, and they also respond well to its strong AWD capability and comfortable ride. That lines up with the Pilot’s family-focused role as a practical people mover for hauling passengers and cargo. Even with some complaints about fuel economy and transmission behavior, the overall package lands well for shoppers who want everyday usefulness. Good and great deals account for 35.8% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.77/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many owners saying they feel confident counting on it over time. The expert evaluation also describes Honda’s reputation for dependability as a meaningful part of the Pilot’s appeal, and it notes that observed fuel economy matched expectations. Honda’s cost-effectiveness commentary also says the warranty and roadside-assistance coverage merely meet standard levels, so long-term ownership is more about the Pilot’s reputation and day-to-day durability than standout coverage perks. For used buyers, the main risk is that a well-liked SUV can still hide wear if maintenance history is incomplete.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Pilot?

At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the drivetrain and electronics behave as expected on a test drive. If the seller cannot clearly document maintenance and repairs, move carefully.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the bare-bones version, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment; the base trim also misses the HondaLink infotainment system and the Honda Sensing package.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6, with a 6-speed automatic on most trims and a 9-speed automatic on Touring and Elite models.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it is standard on every trim except the LX; blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are reserved for the Elite.
• Infotainment: The system uses an 8-inch display, includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and adds HondaLink services and HondaLink Assist; the LX does not get it.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA says an AWD Pilot with the 9-speed automatic returns 22 mpg in combined driving, and the expert test loop returned 21.9 mpg.

Which 2017 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2017 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the least expensive way into the Pilot, but it is also the most stripped-down. You give up HondaLink and the Honda Sensing suite, so it makes sense only if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra tech and driver-assistance features.
• EX: This is the first trim that unlocks Honda Sensing, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers. It adds the safety and convenience content that most used buyers will want without jumping all the way to the pricier luxury-oriented trims.
• EX-L: This trim adds leather and is the point where the Pilot starts feeling more upscale and family-friendly. It is a smart pick if you want a nicer cabin and can skip the Touring and Elite extras.
• Touring: This trim adds the 9-speed automatic, 20-inch wheels, rear-seat entertainment, and a premium sound system. It suits you if you want more comfort and entertainment features for passengers.
• Elite: This is the top trim, with standard AWD, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row captain’s chairs, and the most complete equipment list. It is the right choice if you want the most content and do not mind paying for it.

Honda Sensing is standard on every trim except the LX, and blind-spot warning plus rear cross-traffic alert are only available on the Elite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Pilot?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,515 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,881, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $17,026 sits slightly below last year's $18,113.

That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what you recover later as a seller. If you plan to resell, the softer pricing trend means you should be realistic about future depreciation rather than expecting a quick rebound. Even so, the Pilot’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction help support demand in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2017 Honda Pilot earns a five-star crash-test rating from the federal government and a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety; with Honda Sensing, it improves to a Top Safety Pick+.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it is standard on every trim except the LX. The system includes Honda’s collision-avoidance and driver-assistance technologies, but blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not available unless you move up to the Elite. The expert review also notes that Honda Sensing can struggle in some real-world road and traffic conditions, so you should test those systems carefully during your own drive.

Should I buy a 2017 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review highlights a comfortable ride, strong AWD capability, and family-friendly practicality.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $14,837, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $17,026 average.
• It blends tall, truck-like proportions with a minivan chassis for family-hauling practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping target, the 2017 is the stronger pick because it combines softer pricing, solid inventory, and strong owner satisfaction. If your priority is saving money above all else, the 2016 is the value alternative worth cross-shopping closely.
