How much does the 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 2.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

The 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD stands out as a heavy-duty pickup that blends work-truck capability with a more upscale feel than many rivals. GMC gives you a broader range of trim levels and upscale options than the related Silverado 2500HD, and its “Professional Grade” approach adds a more polished character.

That makes it a strong fit if you want a heavy-duty truck that can still feel well equipped, especially with the available mix of practical and comfort-focused features. The lineup also gives you flexibility across work-oriented and luxury-leaning setups, so you can shop for the version that best matches how you plan to use it.

28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to find a competitive offer if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

The 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD offers a strong feature set for a heavy-duty truck, including Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and wifi hotspot access through the GMC infotainment system. Higher trims can add a Bose Premium audio system, power-adjustable front seats, chrome grille trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a power-folding tailgate.

At the same time, used examples can suffer from issues such as check engine lights, infotainment sluggishness, rough or delayed shifts, electrical glitches, MultiPro tailgate problems, and faulty trailer brake controllers. For long-term ownership, that means you should budget for a careful pre-purchase inspection and be especially cautious about trucks with incomplete service records or warning lights.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

At 67.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on the drivetrain, electronics, transmission behavior, and trailer-related systems, since those are the areas most likely to affect ownership satisfaction. Focus on overall condition and maintenance evidence, not just trim level or equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 658 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.04% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $34,235, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $34,963 sits slightly below last year's $35,691.

That softer pricing suggests the truck has lost some value over the past year, which can help you as a buyer today. If you plan to sell later, the current market points to steady but not especially strong appreciation potential. Well-kept trucks with clean history and desirable equipment should hold up better than average, while higher-mileage or problem-prone examples may face more pressure on resale.

Should I buy a 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.04% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a sensible choice if you want a heavy-duty GMC with upscale appeal and you can verify condition carefully. If your priority is maximizing value, you should focus on the cleanest, best-documented truck you can find rather than chasing the newest badge alone. For price-sensitive buyers, a well-priced 2017 can make sense, especially if it lands near the low end of the range and passes inspection cleanly.
