How much does the 2017 GMC Canyon cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 774 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2017 GMC Canyon a good car?

Yes — your 4.7/5 user rating and the 7.2/10 expert rating both point to a strong overall showing. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the Canyon’s attractive design, excellent fuel economy, and comfortable cabin. The diesel option also gets repeated credit for impressive mileage, while the truck’s smooth ride and stylish interior come up often in positive feedback.

That lines up well with the Canyon’s use case as a midsize pickup that gives you truck utility without forcing you into a full-size model. If you want capability, comfort, and efficiency in a smaller footprint, this model year fits that brief well.

31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2017 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a truck that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its comfort, fuel economy, and overall satisfaction over time.

The expert test-drive notes reinforce that impression by describing the Canyon as comfortable, capable, stylish, and enjoyable to drive. The diesel option adds another layer of long-term appeal for buyers who value efficiency and range.

If you’re shopping used, the main ownership risk is less about broad reliability confidence and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been neglected or overworked.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 GMC Canyon?

At 62.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, frame condition, and signs of heavy use. Pay close attention to cab storage condition, interior wear, and any evidence that the truck was used for towing or hauling more than average.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Denali adds a chrome mesh grille, 20-inch aluminum wheels, chrome side-step rails, a spray-in bedliner, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a wireless charging pad, a Bose premium sound system, and an 8-inch infotainment screen with navigation. It also includes forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning, while the base setup leaves out several advanced driver-assistance features.
• Powertrain: You can choose a gasoline V6 or a turbocharged diesel 4-cylinder. The V6 makes 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, while the diesel emphasizes towing strength and fuel economy.
• Safety package: The Canyon includes a reversing camera, Teen Driver technology, Rear Seat Reminder, automatic collision notification through OnStar, forward collision warning, and lane-departure warning on Denali. It does not offer blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, or automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: IntelliLink uses a responsive touchscreen with a logical menu structure, and the Denali adds an 8-inch screen plus navigation. The system also supports smartphone projection and Siri Eyes Free.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at 19 mpg in combined driving, and the diesel improves fuel economy by 4 miles per gallon in combined driving.

Which 2017 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2017 GMC Canyon is offered in 1 trim level: Denali.

Here's the short version:

Denali is the trim to focus on if you want the most upscale Canyon experience, with the strongest mix of comfort, convenience, and technology. It adds the most visible luxury touches, the larger infotainment screen, and the key driver-assistance features mentioned in the test-drive data.

Because the data only identifies Denali explicitly, that’s the trim to target if you want the clearest feature-rich recommendation. It suits you best if you value a more premium cabin and want the Canyon’s strongest equipment set rather than a stripped-down work truck.

The safety package note matters here: Denali gets forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning, but the Canyon still lacks blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Canyon?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 774 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,790, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $19,983 sits slightly above last year's $19,914.

That small increase suggests the Canyon has held value fairly well rather than swinging sharply up or down. For you as a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it points to a market that remains predictable.

The steady pricing also means you’re less likely to face a dramatic drop in value if you buy at the right price. Strong demand for a capable midsize truck with a loyal following should continue to support resale interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2017 GMC Canyon earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, mainly due to its three-star rollover resistance score.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Canyon’s standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera, Teen Driver technology, Rear Seat Reminder, and automatic collision notification through OnStar. Denali models also add forward collision warning and lane-departure warning.

The main caveat is that the Canyon does not offer blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, or automatic emergency braking. That leaves you with a useful but not especially comprehensive safety package by modern standards.

Should I buy a 2017 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 adds a stronger V6, more advanced tech, and Denali luxury touches that broaden its appeal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $18,204, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $19,983 average.
• It helped revive interest in the midsize-truck segment and gave buyers a refreshed domestic alternative.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more refined Canyon, the 2017 is the stronger all-around pick. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2017’s added polish and equipment, the 2016 can still make sense.
