What should I look for when buying a used 2017 GMC Acadia?

At 58.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with prior damage. Focus on overall condition, evidence of consistent maintenance, and whether the equipment level matches how you plan to use the SUV. Because the Acadia was redesigned to be lighter and smaller, it’s worth making sure the specific vehicle you’re looking at still meets your space and utility needs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SL trim already includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a reversing camera, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, heated mirrors, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, but it stays front-wheel drive only. Moving up to SLE adds all-wheel drive availability, while SLE1 adds LED running lights and satellite radio. SLE2 brings the V6, heated front seats, a power liftgate, roof rails, remote ignition, and standard second-row captain’s chairs, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers. SLT1 adds leather, a Bose stereo, and the Driver Alert 1 package, while SLT2 layers on more luxury and advanced driver aids. Denali is the most upscale version with an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, polished wheels, a unique grille, and a hands-free liftgate.
• Powertrain: The 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 193 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a 6-speed automatic. It delivers 21 mpg city and 26 highway in front-wheel-drive form, but it is not especially quick. The 3.6-liter V6 makes 310 hp and 271 lb-ft, and in AWD form it returns 18 mpg city and 25 highway. Both engines use the 6-speed automatic, which is described as lurchy at low speeds and reluctant to shift during passing maneuvers.
• Safety package: Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The full suite, including surround-view camera and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking, is reserved for the Denali’s optional Technology package.
• Infotainment: The base system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the Denali upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation and a driver display. The system also includes a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the higher trims add more advanced tech features.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, and 23 combined in front-wheel-drive form. The V6 in AWD form returns 18 mpg city and 25 highway, for a combined rating of 21.

Which 2017 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?

The 2017 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SL: This is the entry point, but it is far from bare-bones. You get the 2.5-liter engine, a 6-speed automatic, front-wheel drive, 17-inch alloys, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. It makes sense if you want the lowest price and can live without all-wheel drive or the stronger V6.
• SLE1: This trim adds LED running lights and satellite radio, and it unlocks all-wheel drive. It is a sensible step up if traction matters more to you than luxury features.
• SLE2: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers. It brings the V6, heated front seats, a power liftgate, roof rails, remote ignition, and standard second-row captain’s chairs, which improve access and family usability. If you want the strongest mix of equipment and everyday usefulness, this is the one to target.
• SLT1: This trim adds leather, an upgraded driver display, power front seats with lumbar, auto-dimming mirrors, a Bose stereo, and the Driver Alert 1 package. Choose it if you want more comfort and safety tech without jumping all the way to the top.
• SLT2: This is the more fully loaded mainstream trim, with 20-inch wheels, a trailering package, heated second-row seats, and the Driver Alert II package. It suits you if you want more luxury and more advanced driver assistance.
• Denali: This is the upscale choice, with the 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, polished wheels, a unique grille, and a hands-free liftgate. It is the right pick if you want the most premium Acadia experience.

The safety package is strongest on SLT1 and above, while the Denali is the only trim that can add the full Technology package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Acadia?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,863 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.65% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,713, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 GMC Acadia's resale value?

The current average of $12,714 sits slightly below last year's $14,391.

That decline suggests the Acadia has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help demand from shoppers looking for value. For a future seller, that means pricing competitively will matter, especially if your vehicle lacks desirable equipment or has higher mileage. Well-equipped trims with strong condition and clean history should still have an easier time attracting attention than rougher examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 GMC Acadia safe?

The 2017 GMC Acadia earns five-star frontal crash ratings and four-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Acadia comes standard with 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full airbag suite, and GM’s Teen Driver technology. Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The Denali’s optional Technology package adds surround-view camera capability and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking.

The lower NHTSA ratings outside frontal crash testing are the main caveat to keep in mind when comparing this SUV with rivals.

Should I buy a 2017 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brought a lighter body, a new four-cylinder engine, and improved fuel economy.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $15,114, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $12,714 average.
• It makes V6 power available to more trims.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2017 is the smarter buy because it has softened in price and still offers strong owner satisfaction. If you want broader V6 availability and are willing to pay more, the 2018 is the better path.
