CarGurus Analysis: 2017 GMC Acadia
overall

Summary
With 152 currently listed for sale near Richmond, VA and an average price of $15,173.00, 30.9% of 2017 GMC Acadia models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 GMC Acadia 4.73 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
57.2% of 2017 Acadia models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 GMC Acadia stands out because it was thoroughly redesigned into a smaller, lighter SUV. GMC moved it to the new C1 platform for the 2017 redesign, and that change brought a shorter, narrower profile with a shorter wheelbase. It also arrived with a brand new 4-cylinder engine, and the redesign contributed to an impressive 700-plus-pound weight loss.
That transformation gives the 2017 Acadia a different character from the larger version it replaced, with a more modern footprint aimed at today’s midsize crossover market. It also brought more power for the V6 and a new “All-Terrain” package. The tradeoff is that towing and interior capacity take some major hits, so buyers get a lighter, more contemporary Acadia, but not one that emphasizes maximum utility above all else.

This vehicle has excellent features things like, wireless phone charger, rear seat warmers and many other safety features. Great family vehicle and overall good value for median asking price. I would say the only thing missing is a turbo for additional fun but still very good torque and towing capacity. I would compare this to a Ford Explorer sport of like years.

Is the 2017 GMC Acadia a good car?
Yes — the 2017 GMC Acadia earns a 4.73/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating.
The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.
Owners repeatedly praise the smooth ride, spacious interior, and versatile seating, and they also call out the comfort and family-friendly value. That lines up with the Acadia’s redesigned, smaller footprint and more modern midsize-crossover setup, which makes it a better fit if you want a comfortable daily driver with useful space rather than maximum size. With 28.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 GMC Acadia reliable?
Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with the Acadia viewed as a vehicle you can count on for family use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the redesigned platform and lighter weight, which support a more modern, composed driving feel. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure prior use and maintenance history are clean before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 GMC Acadia?
At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a lower-priced listing. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment you want is actually present on the trim you’re shopping. Because this model year was redesigned, it’s worth making sure the vehicle’s features and mechanical condition match the seller’s description.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SL trim already includes a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, heated mirrors, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, so you do not need to jump up a trim just to get core convenience tech. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, but the base setup is already well equipped.
- Powertrain: The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder is efficient and adequate for everyday use, while the 3.6-liter V6 brings stronger acceleration and more passing power. The 6-speed automatic is still the transmission, and it can feel lurchy at low speeds.
- Safety package: Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The full suite, including surround-view camera and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking, is reserved for the Denali’s optional Technology package.
- Infotainment: The base system uses a 7-inch touchscreen, while higher trims can get an 8-inch screen and a driver display. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot are part of the appeal, and the Denali adds navigation and a virtual gauge display.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, and 23 combined in FWD form. The AWD V6 is rated at 18 mpg city and 25 highway for a combined 21.
Which 2017 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?
The 2017 GMC Acadia is offered in 5 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2.
Here's the short version:
- SL: This is the value play if you want the redesigned Acadia’s core strengths without overspending. You get the 2.5-liter engine, 6-speed automatic, FWD, 17-inch alloys, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, which makes it the best starting point for budget-minded shoppers.
- SLE1: This trim mainly adds LED running lights and satellite radio, and it is the first step if you want a little more equipment without moving deep into the price ladder. It makes sense if those extras matter to you, but it is not the strongest value jump.
- SLE2: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated front seats, an 8-way power driver seat, a power liftgate, fog lights, roof rails, remote ignition, and standard second-row captain’s chairs. It also opens the door to V6 power, which makes it the sweet spot if you want a more family-friendly setup.
- SLT1: This trim is for you if you want a more upscale daily driver. It adds leather, an upgraded driver display, power front seats with lumbar, auto-dimming mirrors, a Bose stereo, and Driver Alert 1, so it brings a noticeable step up in comfort and safety tech.
- SLT2: This is the luxury-leaning choice, adding 20-inch wheels, a trailering package, heated second-row seats, and Driver Alert II. It is the right pick if you want the most advanced standard safety content before stepping into Denali territory.
The safety package is spread unevenly across the lineup, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, shop trims carefully.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Acadia?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

- Inventory: There are 1,883 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.99% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,077.73, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 GMC Acadia's resale value?
The current average of $13,102 sits slightly below last year's $14,888.
That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Acadia easier to buy now but less favorable if you’re thinking about near-term resale. If you purchase at the current average, your future selling price will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether the vehicle has a clean history. Well-equipped trims with strong demand can still hold attention, but the broader trend points to softer values than a year ago.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 GMC Acadia safe?
The 2017 redesign earns four-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except frontal crash, where it earns five-star ratings.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full airbag suite, and GM’s Teen Driver technology. Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The full surround-view camera and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking are reserved for the Denali’s optional Technology package. The lower NHTSA ratings outside frontal crash are the main caveat to keep in mind.
Should I buy a 2017 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.99% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- GM’s redesign brought a lighter, smaller Acadia with a new 4-cylinder engine and a more modern footprint.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $15,515, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $13,102 average.
- V6 availability expands to more trims, improving capability and everyday drivability.
The bottom line: If you want the lower purchase price and can live with the 2017’s tradeoffs, it’s the better value path. If you’d rather pay more for broader V6 availability and a more capable feel, the 2018 is the better alternative for you.
