Is the 2017 GMC Acadia a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, spacious interior, and strong feature content. The Acadia also gets credit for comfort, versatile seating, and useful cargo space, which fits well if you want a family-friendly crossover or something that can handle outdoor-duty errands. With its lighter redesign and more modern packaging, it aims to feel more contemporary than the older Acadia.

Is the 2017 GMC Acadia reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with praise centered on comfort and everyday usability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Acadia’s lighter redesign and improved efficiency, which supports the sense that this is a more modern, easier-to-live-with SUV. The standard 6-speed automatic is a weak point to keep in mind, since it can feel lurchy at low speeds and hesitant during passing.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example with transmission or electronics issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 GMC Acadia?

At 60.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the trim you’re considering matches what you expect. Because this model year spreads key safety and convenience features across trims, it’s worth confirming exactly what’s installed before you buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SL trim is well equipped with tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, heated mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, while higher trims add features such as LED running lights, satellite radio, heated front seats, a power liftgate, leather, a Bose stereo, and more luxury content.
• Powertrain: The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder makes 193 hp and is tuned for efficiency, while the 3.6-liter V6 delivers 310 hp and stronger acceleration; both use a 6-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The full suite, including surround-view camera and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking, is reserved for the Denali’s optional Technology package.
• Infotainment: The Acadia uses a 7-inch touchscreen on lower trims and an 8-inch unit in the Denali, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and available navigation plus a surround-view camera on the top setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, and 23 combined in FWD form, while the AWD V6 is rated at 18 mpg city and 25 highway for 21 combined.

Which 2017 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?

The 2017 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SL: This is the value entry point if you want the new engine, CarPlay/Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a well-equipped cabin without stretching the budget.
• SLE1: This trim is mainly for shoppers who want AWD and a small feature bump over the SL, including LED running lights and satellite radio.
• SLE2: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it adds the V6, heated front seats, a power liftgate, roof rails, remote ignition, and second-row captain’s chairs that improve access and family usability.
• SLT1: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel, with leather, a Bose stereo, upgraded driver displays, and the Driver Alert 1 safety package.
• SLT2: This trim adds more luxury and more safety tech, including heated second-row seats, a trailering package, and Driver Alert II.
• Denali: This is the top luxury choice, with the 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, and the optional Technology package for the most advanced driver assistance features.

The safety package content is strongest on SLT1, SLT2, and Denali, while lower trims miss some of the advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Acadia?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,902 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.87% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,913, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 GMC Acadia's resale value?

The current average of $12,913 sits slightly below last year's $14,488.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, that also means resale upside may be more limited unless your vehicle is especially clean, well equipped, and accident-free. Trim choice matters too, since better-equipped versions tend to be easier to market to used buyers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 GMC Acadia safe?

The 2017 GMC Acadia earns four-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except frontal crash, where it earns five-star ratings.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full airbag suite, and GM’s Teen Driver technology. Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, while Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The most complete driver-assistance setup is reserved for the Denali’s optional Technology package, which adds adaptive cruise with full-speed automatic braking and a surround-view camera.

The lower NHTSA ratings outside frontal crash are worth noting if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2017 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign cuts weight, improves efficiency, and brings a more modern feel to the Acadia.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $15,214, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $12,913 average.
• It broadens V6 availability to more trims, which helps if you want stronger performance without moving up as far.

The bottom line: The 2017 is the better value if you want the redesigned Acadia at a lower price and can shop carefully for condition and equipment. If you want more V6 flexibility and are willing to pay more, the 2018 is the cleaner upgrade path.
