What should I look for when buying a used 2017 GMC Acadia?

At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially on examples with higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus on cabin condition, electronics, and how the drivetrain feels in everyday driving.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SL already includes a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, heated mirrors, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, so you are not starting from a stripped-down setup. Higher trims add features like LED running lights, satellite radio, leather, an upgraded driver display, heated front seats, a power liftgate, and more luxury equipment.
• Powertrain: The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder makes 193 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque and returns 21 mpg city and 26 highway in FWD form. The 3.6-liter V6 makes 310 hp and 271 lb-ft, with AWD V6 fuel economy listed at 18 mpg city and 25 highway.
• Safety package: Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The full suite, including surround-view camera and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking, is reserved for the Denali’s optional Technology package.
• Infotainment: The Acadia uses a 7-inch touchscreen on the base trim and an 8-inch screen on the Denali, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The Denali also adds a virtual gauge display.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, and 23 combined in FWD form. The AWD V6 is rated at 18 mpg city and 25 highway, with a 21 combined rating.

Which 2017 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?

The 2017 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SL: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want a well-equipped SUV. You get the 2.5-liter engine, 6-speed automatic, FWD, 17-inch alloys, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• SLE1: This trim adds LED running lights and satellite radio, and it is the first step up if you want a little more equipment without jumping too far in price. It is also the trim where AWD becomes available.
• SLE2: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it brings the V6, heated front seats, an 8-way power driver seat, a power liftgate, fog lights, roof rails, remote ignition, and standard second-row captain’s chairs. It is the sweet spot if you want stronger power and family-friendly convenience.
• SLT1: This trim adds leather, an upgraded driver display, full power front seats with lumbar, auto-dimming mirrors, a Bose stereo, and Driver Alert 1. It suits you if you want a more upscale cabin and more driver-assistance tech.
• SLT2: This is the step-up choice for shoppers who want more luxury and more safety tech, including 20-inch wheels, a trailering package, heated second-row seats, and Driver Alert II. It is the right pick if you want the most capability before Denali pricing.
• Denali: This is the top luxury trim, with an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, virtual gauge display, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated power steering wheel, xenon headlights, polished wheels, a unique grille, and a hands-free liftgate. The optional Technology package adds the most advanced safety tech.

The safety package is spread unevenly across trims, so if driver assistance matters to you, pay close attention to where each system becomes available.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Acadia?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,887 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.48% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,793, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 GMC Acadia's resale value?

The current average of $12,793 sits slightly below last year's $14,451.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than broad market momentum alone.

Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than average, especially if they have strong service records and clean history reports. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 GMC Acadia safe?

The 2017 GMC Acadia earns four-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except frontal crash, where it earns a five-star rating.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full airbag suite, and Teen Driver technology. Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking.

The main caveat is that the most advanced safety tech is not standard on lower trims, so you need to shop carefully if those features matter to you.

Should I buy a 2017 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.48% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 redesign cuts weight, improves efficiency, and adds a new 4-cylinder engine.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $15,172, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $12,793 average.
• V6 availability expands to more trims, giving you more flexibility.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2017 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with a major redesign and strong owner satisfaction. If you are willing to spend more for broader V6 availability, the 2018 is the better path.
