What should I look for when buying a used 2017 GMC Acadia?

At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with multiple owners. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect for the price. Because the Acadia’s value varies a lot by trim and equipment, it pays to compare feature content carefully before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SL trim is well equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen, reversing camera, tri-zone climate control, keyless ignition and entry, heated mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, but it stays front-wheel drive only. Moving up to SLE adds all-wheel drive availability, while SLE1 adds LED running lights and satellite radio. SLE2 brings the V6, heated front seats, a power liftgate, fog lights, roof rails, remote ignition, and standard second-row captain’s chairs, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers. SLT1 adds leather, a Bose stereo, and more driver aids, while SLT2 and Denali layer on more luxury and safety tech.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 193 hp and 188 lb-ft and returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined in front-wheel-drive form. The 3.6-liter V6 makes 310 hp and 271 lb-ft and is paired with all-wheel drive in higher trims, with stronger acceleration and 18 mpg city, 25 highway, 21 combined in AWD form.
• Safety package: Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The full suite, including surround-view camera and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking, is reserved for the Denali’s optional Technology package.
• Infotainment: The base system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Intellilink, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Higher trims upgrade to an 8-inch touchscreen, and the Denali adds an upgraded driver display and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter front-wheel-drive model returns 21 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined. The V6 all-wheel-drive model returns 18 mpg city and 25 highway for a 21 combined rating.

Which 2017 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?

The 2017 GMC Acadia is offered in 6 trim levels: SL, SLE1, SLE2, SLT1, SLT2, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SL: This is the value entry point if you want the redesigned Acadia’s core tech without spending much. You still get the 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, tri-zone climate control, and a reversing camera, but you stay with front-wheel drive and the four-cylinder engine.
• SLE1: This trim adds LED running lights and satellite radio, and it’s the first step up if you want a little more equipment without jumping too far in price. It’s a sensible middle ground, but it doesn’t add the bigger mechanical or comfort upgrades that make the Acadia feel more complete.
• SLE2: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. You get the V6, heated front seats, a power liftgate, fog lights, roof rails, remote ignition, and standard second-row captain’s chairs, which make the cabin easier to use and improve third-row access.
• SLT1: This trim is the right move if you want a more upscale daily driver. Leather, a Bose stereo, an upgraded driver display, and the Driver Alert 1 safety package make it feel meaningfully richer than the SLE trims.
• SLT2: This is the better pick if you want more advanced safety and convenience features. It adds 20-inch wheels, heated second-row seats, a trailering package, and Driver Alert II with lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking.
• Denali: Choose this if you want the most luxury and the most available tech. It brings the 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, polished wheels, a unique grille, and a hands-free liftgate, with the optional Technology package adding surround-view camera and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking.

The safety-package features are concentrated in the upper trims, so if driver assistance matters to you, you’ll want to shop above the base models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Acadia?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,929 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.90% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,072, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 GMC Acadia's resale value?

The current average of $13,127 sits slightly below last year's $14,570.

That softer pricing suggests the Acadia has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you choose a well-equipped trim and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it’s time to resell. The current market also shows that buyers still respond to the Acadia’s mix of comfort and utility, which helps support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 GMC Acadia safe?

The 2017 GMC Acadia earns five-star ratings in frontal crash tests and four-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full airbag suite, and GM’s Teen Driver technology. Driver Alert 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert II adds lane-keep assist, auto high beams, front parking sensors, and low-speed forward-collision warning with auto braking. The Denali’s optional Technology package adds surround-view camera coverage and adaptive cruise with full-speed auto braking.

The lower NHTSA ratings outside frontal crash testing are the main caveat to keep in mind when you’re comparing safety performance.

Should I buy a 2017 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.90% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 redesign cuts weight and adds a more modern, efficient feel.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $15,398, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $13,127 average.
• V6 power becomes available to more trims.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2017 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and a broad inventory. If you’re willing to spend more for wider V6 availability, the 2018 is the better path.
