How much does the 2017 Ford Explorer cost?

Prices have softened 7.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,198 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2017 Ford Explorer a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Ford Explorer earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.

Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, spacious interior, and impressive features. Many also like its power and handling, especially with the EcoBoost engine. For you, that means it fits well if you want a roomy, family-oriented midsize SUV with a more composed driving feel and plenty of everyday utility.

With 33.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitive offer.

Is the 2017 Ford Explorer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with drivers repeatedly calling out the Explorer’s smooth ride and strong overall usability. The same feedback also suggests it’s a vehicle many owners feel comfortable living with over time, especially when equipped the way they want.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by checking maintenance history and overall condition carefully before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Explorer?

At 65.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership history. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and how well the interior and electronics have been maintained.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Explorer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,198 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.06% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,529, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $13,529 sits slightly below last year's $14,556.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit near-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you’re thinking about future value, condition and documentation matter more when the market is already softening. A clean, well-kept example should hold up better than one with visible wear or a questionable history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $11,963, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $13,529 average.
• Ford refreshed it with updated styling and more available features.

The bottom line: Choose the 2017 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, satisfaction, and inventory. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the better value path, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
