How much does the 2017 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 6.45% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,191 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2017 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Ford Escape earns a 4.68/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its comfort, handling, and cargo space, and many also like the available features and strong performance. For everyday use, it fits well if you want a practical crossover with useful tech and a cabin that’s easy to live with. The Titanium trim gets especially strong feedback for its feature set.

Good and great deals account for 31.6% of listings, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.68/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find comfortable and dependable for daily use, with recurring praise for its strong performance and practical ownership experience. The expert evaluation also describes it as a good value with good fuel economy and a competitive mix of technology and safety features. Ford’s coverage includes a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and 5 years/60,000 miles of roadside assistance.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about core durability and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t accumulated avoidable wear or unresolved quality issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Escape?

At 67.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, alignment, and any signs of prior repair. It’s also smart to test the electronics, liftgate operation, and cabin condition, since those are the kinds of details that can separate a clean example from one that’s been used hard. If possible, focus on listings with complete service records and no signs of rushed cosmetic fixes.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S is the most stripped-down version, while the SE adds more convenience and comfort equipment, and the Titanium brings the richest feature set. The base trim’s infotainment is a weak point, so you’ll want to pay close attention to whether the features you care about are standard or optional.
• Powertrain: You get a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, plus turbocharged 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter EcoBoost engines. The EcoBoost engines are described as offering strong performance along with good fuel efficiency.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rear-view camera, multiple airbags, brake assist, traction control, 4-wheel antilock brakes, and mirrors with blind-spot integration. Higher trims and options add features such as lane-keeping alert, lane-keeping aid, driver alert aid, adaptive cruise control, and collision warning with brake support.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the system is described as easier to use than earlier versions. The screen is large and easy to see, though it sits recessed and can be awkward to reach.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter EcoBoost in 4-wheel-drive form is rated at 20 mpg city/27 highway/23 combined, and the expert evaluation notes that real-world results can be competitive with those figures.

Which 2017 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2017 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the least expensive way into the Escape, but it’s also the most basic. It comes with the standard engine, cloth seating, and the simpler infotainment setup, so it makes sense mainly if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the nicer tech and convenience features.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more complete mix of comfort and convenience features, plus access to more options. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to focus on.
• Titanium: This is the most feature-rich trim, with standard Sync 3, Sync Connect, a Sony audio system, leather-trimmed seats, ambient lighting, and more safety-oriented upgrades. It’s the right pick if you want the most upscale Escape experience.

The Titanium also stands out for its stronger safety and convenience content, including available forward sensing and standard reverse sensing.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Escape?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,191 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.45% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,319, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $10,319 sits slightly below last year's $11,031.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. Well-equipped trims with desirable features may hold buyer interest better than the most basic versions.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.68/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Ford Escape safe?

The 2017 Ford Escape earns top scores from the IIHS, with Good ratings in all crash-test categories except small overlap front, which received an Acceptable rating. It also earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in all but the rollover test, where it received a four-star rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera, multiple airbags, brake assist, traction control, 4-wheel antilock brakes, and mirrors with blind-spot integration. Available upgrades add lane-keeping alert, lane-keeping aid, driver alert aid, adaptive cruise control, collision warning with brake support, and other advanced driver-assistance features.

The main caveat is the IIHS small overlap front result, which trails the Escape’s otherwise strong crash-test performance.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.68/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 brings a meaningful mid-cycle refresh with updated technology, improved functionality, and stronger safety equipment.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $8,943, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,319 average.
• It offers agile handling, stout engine options, and comfortable seating.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped, more modern Escape, the 2017 is the stronger all-around choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the better value path, especially if you find a clean example with the features you need.
