How much does the 2017 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 6.49% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,173 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2017 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Ford Escape earns a 4.68/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its comfort, handling, and cargo space, and many also like the available features and strong performance. That lines up with the Escape’s use-case as an everyday crossover that aims to be practical, easy to live with, and well equipped. The Titanium trim gets especially positive attention for its feature content.

With 32.7% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive example.

Is the 2017 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.68/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find comfortable and dependable enough to recommend, with recurring praise for its everyday usability and strong performance. The expert evaluation also describes it as a competitive crossover with a good combination of technology, safety, and fuel economy, which supports the case for trouble-free ownership when you choose a well-kept example.

Ford’s coverage includes a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and 5 years/60,000 miles of roadside assistance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the platform itself and more about how carefully the specific vehicle was maintained and optioned.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Escape?

At 67.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history. Focus on body alignment, panel fit, interior condition, and how well the features work, since condition can vary meaningfully from one Escape to another. If you’re shopping a higher-trim example, make sure the added equipment is functioning as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S is the most stripped-down version, while the SE adds more standard convenience and safety-oriented equipment, and the Titanium brings the richest feature set. The base trim’s infotainment setup is a notable weak point, so you should pay close attention to feature gaps if you’re comparing lower-priced examples.
• Powertrain: The Escape offers a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, plus turbocharged 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter EcoBoost engines. The turbo engines are described as delivering strong performance along with good fuel efficiency, so you should decide whether you want the simpler base setup or the more responsive turbocharged options.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rear-view camera, traction control, brake assist, 4-wheel antilock brakes, and blind-spot-integrated mirrors. Higher trims and options add features such as lane-keeping alert, lane-keeping aid, driver alert aid, adaptive cruise control, and collision warning with brake support, so trim choice matters if you want the most advanced driver assistance.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the system is described as much easier to use than earlier versions. The screen is large and easy to see, and Sync Connect adds remote access features, but the base system is less satisfying than the upgraded setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter EcoBoost in 4-wheel-drive form is rated at 20 mpg city/27 highway/23 combined, and the expert evaluation notes an average of 24.5 mpg during testing.

Which 2017 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2017 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the least expensive way into the Escape, but it’s also the most basic. You get the standard 2.5-liter engine, cloth seating, a manually adjustable driver’s seat, and the simpler infotainment setup, so it makes sense mainly if price matters most and you can live without the nicer tech and convenience features.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a stronger mix of comfort, convenience, and available upgrades without jumping all the way to the top model. You get the 1.5-liter EcoBoost standard, more adjustment for the driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, and access to more optional equipment, making it the sweet spot for everyday use.
• Titanium: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale Escape experience. It adds standard Sync 3, Sync Connect, a 10-speaker Sony audio system, leather-trimmed seats, ambient lighting, and more safety-oriented equipment, so it suits you best if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them.

Safety equipment expands as you move up the lineup, with the most advanced driver-assistance features concentrated in the higher trims and options.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Escape?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,173 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.49% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,362, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $10,362 sits slightly below last year's $11,081.

That softer pricing suggests the Escape has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you choose a well-kept example with desirable equipment, you may have a better chance of holding buyer interest later. Condition and trim will matter a lot, especially because shoppers often compare feature content closely in this segment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.68/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Ford Escape safe?

The 2017 Ford Escape earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except rollover, where it earns a four-star rating, and it received Good ratings from IIHS in all crash-test categories except small overlap front, which was rated Acceptable.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera, multiple airbags, brake assist, traction control, 4-wheel antilock brakes, and mirrors with blind-spot integration. Higher trims and options add lane-keeping alert, lane-keeping aid, driver alert aid, adaptive cruise control, collision warning with brake support, and bi-xenon HID headlights.

One caveat to keep in mind is the IIHS small overlap front result, which trails the Escape’s otherwise strong crash-test performance.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.49% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.68/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 brings a significant mid-cycle refresh with improved functionality, user-friendliness, and upgraded safety and technology.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $8,968, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $10,362 average.
• It emphasizes agile handling, stout engine options, and comfortable seating.

The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded Escape with stronger tech and safety updates, the 2017 is the smarter pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 can still make sense, especially if you value its driving feel and comfortable cabin more than the newer equipment.
