CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Ford Edge
overall

Summary
With 74 currently listed for sale near Fort Lauderdale, FL and an average price of $11,200, 16.2% of 2017 Ford Edges for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Ford Edge 4.43 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
98.6% of 2017 Edge models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford Edge stands out as a well-sized crossover that sits between the smaller Ford Escape and the larger Explorer and Flex. It offers seating for five passengers, ample cargo room, and storage cubbies galore, making it a practical choice for busy families. It also has a manageable size and attractive styling, which helps it feel easy to live with rather than oversized or cumbersome.
What the Edge does not try to be is just as important: it does not pretend to be a weekend off-road warrior. The styling is sleek and attractive, though not especially dramatic or eye-catching, so its appeal is more about balance than flash. For buyers who want a family-friendly crossover with useful space and a comfortable, straightforward personality, the 2017 Ford Edge makes a strong case.

I never had a problem with my 2017 Edge. At 65000 miles I got a notice from Ford that due to engine problems they needed to replace engine. Brought it in when they got the engine in stock. No charge. Then got a notice about the transmission. Brought it in. No charge. Car now has 95,000 miles. No problems so far except new battery which Aaa replaced for $85. mechanic told me Ford Edge is the best car Ford makes.

This car is a great car for someone who lives in a winter climate. It has great clearance and with snow tires can easily go through a foot of snow with the all-wheel-drive model with no worries! I like that has space for my kids and my stuff. I like that it’s comfortable and it’s not too big. I like that it’s easy on gas!

How much does the 2017 Ford Edge cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,431 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,272.24 |
| Year-Round High | $13,515.09 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,519 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.05% |
Prices have softened 8.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,882 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for you to compare.
If you find a listing below $12,272.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge a good car?
Generally — the 2017 Ford Edge earns 4.43/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, spacious interior, and comfort, and many also like the well-appointed features and smooth ride. In practical terms, that lines up well with its family-friendly layout, five-passenger seating, and generous cargo room.
The Edge is aimed at everyday use rather than rugged off-road duty, so it makes the most sense if you want a polished, manageable crossover for family hauling and commuting. With 30.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.43/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle many shoppers found reliable and trouble-free over time, with several owners saying it offered a lot for the price. The expert drive notes also describe a composed, responsive ride with well-timed shifts and solid braking, which supports the impression of a dependable daily driver.
The cost-effectiveness notes also frame the Edge as a strong value in the middle of the lineup, especially if you want a practical crossover without stretching into a pricier trim. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some examples may have early mechanical issues, so condition and maintenance history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Edge?
At 68.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lower price than the rest of the market. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence of unresolved mechanical or electrical issues.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SE keeps things simple with cloth seats, a 4.2-inch screen, and basic infotainment, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience features. The SEL and Titanium bring more upscale equipment, and the Sport stands apart with its unique engine and sport-tuned hardware.
- Powertrain: The lineup includes a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, an available 3.5-liter V6 on SEL and Titanium, and a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 on the Sport. The base setup is the most efficient, while the Sport is the most powerful and responsive.
- Safety package: Available driver aids include lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, a 180-degree front camera with washer, and inflatable rear safety belts. Many of these features are reserved for higher trims rather than the base model.
- Infotainment: Base models use Sync with a 4.2-inch color LCD screen, while Sync 3 upgrades you to an 8-inch touchscreen with two USB ports. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included with Sync 3.
- Fuel efficiency: The Sport is rated at 17 mpg city/24 highway, while the base engine in SE with FWD is rated at 21 mpg city/29 highway.
Which 2017 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2017 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the Edge’s space and practicality at the lowest entry price. It gives you the core crossover experience, but you give up a lot of the convenience, tech, and safety upgrades found higher up the range.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a stronger mix of comfort and convenience features, including available V6 power, better seating adjustments, dual-zone climate control, and more tech options. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
- Titanium: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin and more standard tech, including leather-trimmed seating, memory settings, Sync 3, two USB ports, and a 12-speaker Sony audio system. It makes the Edge feel more premium, but you’ll pay for the upgrade.
- Sport: Pick this only if you want the most powerful and responsive Edge, since it uses the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and adds sport-tuned suspension and unique styling details. It’s the enthusiast choice, not the value choice.
Higher trims are where you’ll find most of the available safety and convenience features, so base-model shoppers should be especially careful about equipment gaps.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Edge?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,882 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.05% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,272.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $12,431 sits slightly below last year's $13,519.
That price movement suggests the Edge has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you choose a well-kept example and avoid overpaying, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.43/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge safe?
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it a Good rating in all crash tests except small front overlap, where it received Acceptable. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it an overall five-star rating with four-star rollover resistance.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Edge includes available lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, and a 180-degree front camera with washer. Multiple airbags are standard, and inflatable rear safety belts are available.
One important caveat is that the Edge does not qualify for the Top Safety Pick+ rating because it lacks front crash-mitigation technology. If safety is a top priority, you should look closely at trim level and equipment content rather than assuming every used example has the same protection.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.05% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.43/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 Edge offers a practical, family-friendly layout with strong space and comfort.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $11,377, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $12,431 average.
- It emphasizes Ford’s sportier Edge personality with a performance-minded setup.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced buy, the 2017 is the stronger choice because it combines softer pricing, broad inventory, and strong owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the cheaper path, but you should be sure its sport-focused appeal is what you actually want.
