How much does the 2017 Dodge Durango cost?

Prices have softened 7.48% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,309 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2017 Dodge Durango a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Dodge Durango earns 4.56/5 from owners and 7.17/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the powerful V8 engine, stylish design, spacious interior, and smooth ride. That lines up well with the Durango’s use case as a family SUV that can handle daily errands, road trips, and heavier-duty towing without giving up comfort. You also get a rugged, functional character rather than a luxury-first feel, which may suit you if you want capability and space more than polish.

Only 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards shoppers who move carefully.

Is the 2017 Dodge Durango reliable?

Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels powerful, spacious, and enjoyable to live with over time, and it repeatedly highlights the Durango as a dependable family choice. The expert evaluation also emphasizes confident road manners, solid stops, and a sense of control that helps the SUV feel composed in everyday use. On the ownership side, the included 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty and roadside assistance add some reassurance for the early years.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a well-equipped Durango can be expensive to maintain and fuel, so condition and service history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Dodge Durango?

At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or heavily optioned example. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, brake condition, and whether the electronics and infotainment features work as expected. Because this SUV can be used for towing and family hauling, it’s worth checking for evidence of hard use as well.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Durango offers four trim levels—SXT, GT, Citadel, and R/T—each with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The base SXT is the most stripped-down version, with a 5.0-inch screen, 6-speaker audio, and seating for five, while the GT adds an 8.4-inch screen, power front seats, ParkSense rear park assist, and a rear backup camera. The Citadel adds more upscale touches such as ventilated Nappa leather seats, a sunroof, navigation, and an Alpine premium audio system, while the R/T brings the performance-focused hardware and unique interior treatment. If you want the best value, the GT is the trim that most clearly adds everyday convenience without jumping all the way to the pricier upper trims.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 3.6-liter V6 or a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The V6 is the efficiency-minded choice and can tow up to 6,200 pounds, while the V8 delivers 360 horsepower, 390 lb-ft of torque, and up to 7,400 pounds of towing. The V8 also gives the Durango a much stronger, more confident feel when you’re carrying people or pulling a trailer.
• Safety package: Every Durango includes multiple airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, rain brake support, ready alert braking, and trailer-sway control. Available driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control with stop, advanced brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with cross-path detection, forward-collision warning with active braking, ParkSense rear park assist and rear backup camera, and LaneSense lane-departure warning. Some of the more advanced safety tech is optional rather than standard, so trim choice matters.
• Infotainment: The Durango uses Uconnect with either a 5.0-inch or 8.4-inch touchscreen, plus a standard 6-speaker audio system, SD card slot, USB port, auxiliary jack, and two 12-volt outlets. Available upgrades include SiriusXM services, a 9-speaker Alpine system with a subwoofer and 506-watt amplifier, and a BeatsAudio premium sound system. There is no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto compatibility.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 AWD is rated 18/25 mpg, and the Hemi V8 is rated 14/22 mpg. The V8’s stronger towing and passing power come with a noticeable fuel-economy penalty, so you should weigh capability against running costs.

Which 2017 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2017 Dodge Durango is offered in 4 trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, and R/T.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Durango’s core space and utility at the lowest starting price. It’s the trim to consider if you mainly want the SUV’s size, towing ability, and family-friendly layout without paying for extras.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8.4-inch screen, power front seats, ParkSense rear park assist, and a rear backup camera. It also opens the door to more seating flexibility, making it the sweet spot if you want a well-equipped family SUV without moving into luxury pricing.
• Citadel: This is the comfort-and-features upgrade, with ventilated Nappa leather seats, a sunroof, navigation, and an Alpine premium audio system. Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin and are willing to pay for it.
• R/T: This is the performance-oriented trim, with the Hemi V8, sport suspension, performance steering, and stronger brakes. It makes the most sense if you want the Durango’s biggest engine and a more athletic driving feel.

Some advanced safety features remain optional, so check each listing carefully for the driver-assistance equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Dodge Durango?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,309 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.48% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,677, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $14,752 sits slightly below last year's $15,945.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. If you plan to resell later, the current softness means your upside is more about buying well than expecting quick appreciation. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher, higher-mileage trucks.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Dodge Durango safe?

The 2017 Dodge Durango earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side crash testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Durango includes multiple airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, rain brake support, ready alert braking, and trailer-sway control. Available safety tech includes adaptive cruise control with stop, advanced brake assist, blind-spot monitoring with cross-path detection, forward-collision warning with active braking, ParkSense rear park assist and rear backup camera, and LaneSense lane-departure warning.

The crash-test results are the main caution here, especially if safety is a top priority for your family. If you’re shopping used, it’s worth prioritizing listings with the available driver-assistance features and confirming that all safety systems function properly.

Should I buy a 2017 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.48% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 combines strong towing ability with a broad trim range and available family-friendly tech.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $13,409, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $14,752 average.
• It adds sportier updates and fresh equipment across the lineup.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $17,456, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,752 average.
• It adds Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a new SRT trim.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, capability, and available equipment, the 2017 is the sensible pick. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2016 can save you money, while the 2018 makes sense if you want newer tech and are willing to pay more.
