The review summary points to a truck that many owners describe as reliable, and it also emphasizes a dependable feel, comfortable ownership, and a generally trouble-free experience for many drivers. That said, you should still treat this as a used full-size truck purchase where maintenance history matters. For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is buying a truck with hidden wear or unresolved issues that could turn a good deal into an expensive one.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on every truck you seriously consider, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic who knows full-size pickups. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of prior body damage or poor repairs, since those details can matter more than mileage alone. If a truck looks especially clean, make sure the paperwork and inspection support what you see.

That softer pricing can help you buy more truck for the money now, but it also means future resale may depend heavily on how well you preserve the vehicle. If you keep maintenance records, avoid accident damage, and choose a clean example, you give yourself a better chance of holding value. Trucks with strong owner satisfaction tend to stay in demand, which can help support resale when it's time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.66% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 makes sense if you want a full-size Silverado with a favorable price trend and enough inventory to shop carefully. If you’re more price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-documented truck rather than chasing the lowest sticker price alone.
