CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Cadillac XT5
overall

Summary
With 64 currently listed for sale near San Jose, CA and an average price of $13,424.00, 17.2% of 2017 Cadillac XT5s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Cadillac XT5 4.82 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
78.1% of 2017 XT5 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Cadillac XT5 stands out as Cadillac’s replacement for the SRX, and it was positioned as a lighter, roomier, and more tech-focused crossover. That combination gives it a clear identity in the luxury crossover segment: it aims to feel more modern and more spacious while still carrying Cadillac’s upscale character.
Cadillac also gave the XT5 an emphasis on technology and luxury, along with the lightweight construction that had helped its sport sedans succeed. For buyers, that makes the 2017 XT5 appealing as a comfortable, premium crossover with a contemporary feel. Owner feedback reinforces that impression, with praise for comfort, smooth driving, stylish design, and safety features. At the same time, some owners have been less satisfied with the navigation system, stiff seats, and fuel economy, which are worth keeping in mind.

I enjoyed all the extra features this crossover car had to offer. It was a very comfortable test drive. It had plenty of power and drove so smooth. The cabin was nice and quiet even on the interstate highway.

Great Improvement on my 2013 SRX; Loved it, but it was totaled when we were hit by a teenage driver. Got another car, yet there is nothing like a Cadillac. Can’t wait to get back into one!!!!

Cadillac also includes standard OnStar with automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle recovery, remote door control, and roadside assistance, which adds peace of mind for used buyers. The main long-term ownership risk is that some of the XT5’s more desirable safety and convenience features were reserved for higher trims or options, so you’ll want to verify exactly what the specific vehicle includes.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Cadillac XT5?
At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important here, since you’ll want to check for signs of accident repair, uneven panel gaps, and wear on the interior tech and driver-assistance features. Focus on condition and equipment level, because the XT5’s appeal depends heavily on how well it was optioned.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base models are well equipped with a rear-view camera, parking sensors, LED running lights, auto headlights, keyless ignition and entry with remote engine start, dual-zone auto climate control, a power liftgate, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, four USB inputs, and wireless charging. Higher trims add leather, more seat adjustment, heated features, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and additional comfort and convenience equipment.
- Powertrain: The XT5 uses a 3.6-liter V6 across the lineup, with 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. It delivers brawny acceleration, but the engine can sound strained at higher revs, and the 8-speed transmission can feel jerky in stop-and-go driving.
- Safety package: The Driver Awareness package adds forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, auto high beams, and lane-departure warning and assist. The Driver Assist package adds adaptive cruise, automatic parking, and an upgraded collision-mitigation system. Some of these features are not standard on lower trims.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen with CUE, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and smartphone integration. The system also supports wireless charging, and higher trims or packages can add navigation and an upgraded 14-speaker Bose system.
- Fuel efficiency: The XT5 is EPA estimated at 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, for a combined rating of 21 mpg. Real-world results can fall well short of that, so fuel costs are worth factoring into your budget.
Which 2017 Cadillac XT5 trim should I buy?
The 2017 Cadillac XT5 is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Luxury, Premium Luxury, Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: This is the value play if you want the XT5’s core luxury and tech without stretching the budget. It already includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bose audio, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, and keyless access, but it skips many of the comfort and safety upgrades found higher up.
- Sweet-spot trim: Luxury is the best balance for most shoppers because it adds leather, heated front-seat features, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, and front parking sensors without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
- Premium/top trim: Premium Luxury is the best choice if you want a more upscale feel, since it adds the Driver Awareness and Navigation packages, vented front seats, illuminated door handles, and continually adjusting suspension dampers. It also brings more of the XT5’s desirable tech and comfort features together in one place.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims here is positioned as an off-road-focused choice, so daily drivers should stay focused on comfort, safety, and equipment content instead.
The safety-package note to keep in mind is that several of the XT5’s most useful driver-assistance features are trim- or package-dependent, so you should verify the exact equipment list before you buy.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Cadillac XT5?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,286 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.96% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,346.39, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Cadillac XT5's resale value?
The current average of $15,343 sits slightly below last year's $17,041.
That price movement suggests the XT5 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be good news if you’re buying now. For a future seller, though, it means you should expect resale value to remain sensitive to mileage, condition, and equipment level rather than simply relying on the badge alone.
The XT5’s market position also matters: it competes in a luxury segment where buyers pay close attention to features and condition, so well-equipped examples should hold up better than stripped or heavily worn ones. If you plan to sell in a few years, choosing a cleaner, better-optioned vehicle should help protect your exit price.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Cadillac XT5 safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
The XT5 comes with a full suite of airbags, including curtain and driver knee airbags, plus traction and stability control systems. Cadillac also offers a broad set of available safety features, including forward-collision alert and mitigation, lane-departure warning and correction, front pedestrian detection, parking sensors front and back, adaptive cruise with a following distance indicator, and an upgraded collision-mitigation system.
The Driver Awareness package adds forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, auto high beams, and lane-departure warning and assist, while the Driver Assist package adds adaptive cruise, automatic parking, and an upgraded collision-mitigation system. Some of these features are not standard, so you should confirm whether the vehicle you’re considering has the safety equipment you want.
Should I buy a 2017 Cadillac XT5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.96% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 XT5 emphasizes technology, luxury, and a lighter, roomier design, which gives it a clear identity in Cadillac’s crossover lineup.
The bottom line: If you want a comfortable, tech-forward luxury crossover and you’re willing to verify condition carefully, the 2017 XT5 is a sensible buy. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the softened market and decent deal share make this a good year to shop, but you should prioritize well-documented, well-equipped examples over the cheapest listing you can find.
