Is the 2017 Cadillac XT5 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Cadillac XT5 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10. Owners repeatedly praise the comfort, smooth driving feel, stylish design, and safety features, while the overview frames it as a roomier, more tech-focused luxury crossover with a premium feel. That combination makes it a strong fit if you want a comfortable, upscale SUV with a modern presentation rather than a purely utilitarian one. Good and great deals account for 30.3% of listings, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Cadillac XT5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels comfortable, luxurious, and generally dependable enough to inspire enthusiasm over time, with many drivers highlighting the smooth driving experience and upscale character. The expert review also emphasizes Cadillac’s lightweight construction and technology focus, which supports the XT5’s appeal as a well-rounded premium crossover. Cadillac’s own safety and convenience features, including OnStar and a broad list of available driver aids, add to the sense that the XT5 is built for confident daily use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some desirable features sit higher up the trim ladder or on the options list, so you’ll want to verify exactly what’s on the specific vehicle you’re considering.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Cadillac XT5?

At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. It’s also smart to test the infotainment system, seat comfort, and driver-assistance features, since owner feedback and expert impressions both point to those as meaningful parts of the XT5 experience. If you’re comparing multiple listings, focus on condition and equipment level rather than price alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base models are already well equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, LED running lights, auto headlights, keyless ignition and entry, remote engine start, dual-zone auto climate control, a power liftgate, and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Luxury adds leather, more seat adjustment, a heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, interior accent lighting, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front parking sensors.
• Powertrain: The XT5 uses a 3.6-liter V6 with 310 horsepower across the lineup. It delivers brawny acceleration, but the review notes that it can feel strained at higher revs and that fuel economy is a weak point.
• Safety package: The Driver Awareness package adds forward-collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, auto high beams, and lane-departure warning and assist. The Driver Assist package adds adaptive cruise, automatic parking, and an upgraded collision-mitigation system. Some of these features are not standard on lower trims.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen with CUE, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and smartphone integration. The system also includes wireless charging, and the tech package adds a 14-speaker Bose sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is EPA estimated at 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, with a combined rating of 21 mpg.

Which 2017 Cadillac XT5 trim should I buy?

The 2017 Cadillac XT5 is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Luxury, Premium Luxury, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the XT5’s core luxury and tech without stretching the budget. You still get the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bose audio, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, remote start, and a power liftgate, so it covers the essentials well.
• Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the features that make the XT5 feel more upscale day to day, including leather, heated front seating, a heated steering wheel, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a panoramic sunroof.
• Premium Luxury: Choose this if you want a more polished ride and more available safety and convenience tech. It adds the Driver Awareness and Navigation packages, vented front seats, illuminated door handles, and continually adjusting suspension dampers, with the Driver Assist package available for adaptive cruise and automatic parking.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped version, with premium leather upholstery, a unique gauge cluster, floor mats, a hands-free power liftgate, heated outer seats, 3-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera view, and a head-up display. It makes sense if you want the most features and don’t mind paying for them.

The safety-package content makes clear that several of the XT5’s most useful driver-assistance features are optional or trim-dependent, so check carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Cadillac XT5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,233 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,875, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Cadillac XT5's resale value?

The current average of $14,881 sits slightly below last year's $16,342.

That decline suggests the XT5 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be good news if you’re buying now and less ideal if you plan to sell soon. The softer pricing trend also means future resale gains may be limited unless the vehicle is especially well kept and well equipped. If you’re thinking about ownership length, the XT5 makes more sense as a buy-and-hold luxury crossover than as a short-term flip.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Cadillac XT5 safe?

The 2017 Cadillac XT5 has not been tested by NHTSA, but Cadillac says it comes with a full suite of airbags, including curtain and driver knee airbags, plus traction and stability control systems. It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Cadillac also offers a broad set of available driver aids, including forward-collision alert and mitigation, lane-departure warning and correction, front pedestrian detection, parking sensors front and back, adaptive cruise with a following-distance indicator, and an upgraded collision-mitigation system. Standard OnStar adds automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle recovery, remote door unlock, and roadside assistance. The main caveat is that many of the most useful safety features are tied to higher trims or option packages, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used example.

Should I buy a 2017 Cadillac XT5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Prices have softened 8.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 XT5 was positioned as a lighter, roomier, more tech-focused replacement for the SRX, giving it a clear identity in Cadillac’s lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the XT5’s modern-feeling design, strong comfort, and broad feature set at a lower used price, the 2017 is a sensible place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and look for a well-equipped example with the safety and convenience packages you want.
