Is the 2017 BMW 4 Series a good car?

Generally — the 2017 BMW 4 Series earns a 4.1/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction. Drivers most often praise its performance and handling, along with its power and quality. Many also like its stylish design and the sense that it feels more special than a conventional sedan. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a premium car with a sporty character and a choice of coupe, convertible, or Gran Coupe body styles. With 34.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.1/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that many drivers find dependable enough to enjoy over time, especially when it comes to overall quality and the confidence it inspires on the road. At the same time, some owners mention reliability concerns and minor issues, so you should expect used-car ownership risk to depend heavily on maintenance history and how well the specific example has been cared for.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 BMW 4 Series?

At 52.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with accident records or other red flags. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or incomplete service documentation. Focus on condition details that matter most in a used luxury car: signs of past bodywork, uneven panel gaps, interior wear, and any evidence that repairs or maintenance were deferred.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW 4 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can find value if you compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 891 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.80% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,457, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $15,528 sits slightly below last year's $16,485.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy well and keep the car in strong condition, because a lower entry price can help protect your position later. Strong owner satisfaction can also help support demand when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2017 is the primary year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a cleaner or better-equipped example is available at a similar outlay, but the 2017 already gives you a compelling mix of value and appeal.
