Why it stands out
The 2017 Audi Q7 stands out as a full redesign that brought the flagship SUV back after a year hiatus with a new look, a new engine, and serious weight loss. It returns with a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, improved technology, more interior space, and a full visual redesign, while shedding 700 pounds of curb weight. Those changes give it a more modern feel and help make it appealing to buyers who want a luxury SUV that emphasizes refinement and efficiency in its packaging.
Owners also tend to praise the 2017 Audi Q7 for its luxurious interior, performance, and advanced technology. The smooth ride and strong capability in different drive modes add to its appeal, especially for drivers who value comfort and confident handling. At the same time, some owners have raised concerns about fuel consumption, the auto start/stop function, and the infotainment system’s design, so its strengths are balanced by a few practical drawbacks.

Best, highest quality vehicle we have ever owned - have owned most all other German brands, but this is our first Audi. We did our research & test drives and the Q7 was the best combination of power, safety, style, 7 seats (a must for us) and off the charts solid, luxury vehicle. There is nothing I dont like about my 2017 Q7. Really looking forward to a long road trip!

Stunning interior and super tech heavy. At first the interior technology seemed a little daunting, but with a little time behind the wheel became 2nd nature and appreciated. Incredibly smooth ride and the ability to change drive modes changes the cars personality which is really fun. I am not a fan of the engine auto on/off function while in traffic or at a stop light. Thankfully you get the option to shut that off. Love this car overall. It can be pricey, but there seem to be some decent deals out there on low mileage used vehicles if you are patient.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels well-liked over time, with repeated praise for its luxurious interior, performance, and advanced technology. That kind of response usually lines up with a model that owners feel good about living with day to day.
The expert notes also emphasize the Q7’s smooth power delivery and the way its lighter design improves handling, braking, and fuel efficiency, which supports the impression of a well-engineered SUV. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability from the data here and more about making sure the specific example you choose has been maintained and driven carefully.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Audi Q7?
At 70.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment and driving aids work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base trim already includes a panoramic sunroof, LED running and taillights, leather upholstery, automatic wipers, power-folding heated mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, forward-collision warning with auto-brake, a reversing camera, 3-zone auto climate control, heated front seats with 8-way power and driver lumbar, and a 7-inch MMI display. Higher trims add navigation, keyless entry and ignition, blind-spot monitoring, LED headlights, a surround-view camera, ventilated front seats, 4-zone climate control, head-up display, and a larger 8.3-inch display.
- Powertrain: The turbocharged 4-cylinder makes 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, while the supercharged V6 makes 333 hp and 325 lb-ft. The 4-cylinder is rated at 20 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined, and the V6 gives up only 1 mpg in city and combined driving.
- Safety package: Standard and available safety tech includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning and mitigation, night vision, front and rear parking sensors, and Audi Pre-Sense. Some features are trim dependent, so verify exactly what the vehicle you’re considering has.
- Infotainment: The base setup uses a 7-inch display, while the top trim gets a larger 8.3-inch high-resolution screen. The system also includes the virtual cockpit, and higher trims add navigation and a head-up display.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged 4-cylinder returns 20 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined, while the V6 sacrifices only 1 mpg in city and combined driving.
Which 2017 Audi Q7 trim should I buy?
The 2017 Audi Q7 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: Premium gives you a lot already, including leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, parking sensors, a reversing camera, and forward-collision warning with auto-brake. It’s the trim to choose if you want the lowest entry price without giving up the core luxury and safety equipment.
- Sweet-spot trim: Premium Plus is the best value if you want the biggest step up in everyday convenience. It adds navigation, keyless entry and ignition, blind-spot monitoring, a power-adjustable steering wheel, auto-dimming side mirrors, and interior accent lighting.
- Premium/top trim: Prestige is the luxury and tech play, with the larger 8.3-inch display, head-up display, LED headlights, surround-view camera, ventilated front seats, 4-zone climate control, rear window sunshades, and premium audio options.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims here are presented as an off-road-focused choice.
The safety package includes Audi Pre-Sense, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning and mitigation, night vision, and parking sensors, with some features varying by trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Audi Q7?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,098 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.15% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 70.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,402.99, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Audi Q7's resale value?
The current average of $14,400 sits slightly below last year's $16,391.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum alone.
Because the model still draws strong owner satisfaction, demand should remain reasonably healthy for well-kept examples. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Audi Q7 safe?
The 2017 Audi Q7 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Audi Pre-Sense is part of the safety story here, and the Q7 also includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning and mitigation, night vision, front and rear parking sensors, traction and stability control, and quattro AWD. Some of those features vary by trim, so you should confirm the exact equipment on the vehicle you’re considering.
One caveat from the expert notes is that the adaptive cruise and forward-collision system has previously been known to react too aggressively to certain road markings or bumps, so it’s worth testing those systems carefully on a used example.
Should I buy a 2017 Audi Q7 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 70.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.15% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- After a year off, the Q7 returns with a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, improved technology, more interior space, and 700 pounds less curb weight.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Q7 with strong tech, a refined cabin, and a market that has already moved lower on price, the 2017 is the right place to focus. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for the best-condition example and use the softer market to your advantage.
