Why it stands out
The 2017 Acura RDX sits in the second generation of Acura’s compact luxury crossover and reflects the brand’s move toward a more practical, comfortable formula. For this generation, Acura replaced the earlier turbo four with a 3.5-liter V6 that made 273 horsepower and sent power through a six-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive available. The RDX also grew larger than the first-generation model, gained more cabin space, and was tuned for a softer ride, which helped make it a more appealing everyday family crossover than its sportier predecessor.
For 2017 specifically, there weren’t any significant changes, so the appeal comes from the broader strengths of this generation rather than a major update that year. The RDX offered a roomy interior, plenty of space for adult passengers, and 61.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the rear seats folded flat. Equipment was solid for the class, especially on higher trims, and the available AcuraWatch Plus Package added adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation with automatic braking, lane departure intervention, and blind-spot monitoring. The tradeoff is that this generation is less exciting to drive than the original RDX, and its two-screen infotainment setup was not especially intuitive to use.

Feature set for this model good. Not having retractable mirrors is a disappointment. Otherwise I’m pleased with the design.

The 2017 Acura RDX is an excellent choice for a nice suv. This particular model year has a v6 with lots of power. With tons of standard features it is a bargain and fun to drive. The only negative is that it needs premium gas for optimum performance. Great product at a reasonable price compared to its competitors.

Is the 2017 Acura RDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with drivers repeatedly calling out the RDX’s smooth, trouble-free feel and strong overall value in daily use. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used luxury SUV you can count on for regular commuting and family duty. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Acura RDX?
At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership history before you go any further. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially for bodywork, alignment, and signs of uneven wear that can point to past damage. It also makes sense to focus on overall condition and maintenance records, since a clean, well-kept example is the safest way to buy this model.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Acura RDX?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 700 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.87% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,453, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Acura RDX's resale value?
The current average of $16,051 sits slightly below last year's $16,525.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help limit how much value you lose after purchase. For a future seller, that can be a positive sign if you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition. A clean history and solid maintenance records should matter more when it comes time to resell, because shoppers in this segment tend to reward well-kept examples.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Acura RDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.87% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $14,622, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $16,051 average.
- It brings a thorough update with upgraded powertrain, safety, and infotainment.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest balance of owner satisfaction, current market availability, and a still-reasonable price, the 2017 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2016 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
