For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the overall reputation and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and shows no signs of neglected wear.

At 66.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership history before you commit. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has higher mileage or incomplete service documentation.

Focus your condition check on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, interior wear, and any issues with electronics or comfort features, since those are the kinds of details that can affect your ownership experience.

Should I buy a 2016 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?
