CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Toyota RAV4

Summary
With 96 currently listed for sale near Seattle, WA and an average price of $13,674, 31.3% of 2016 Toyota RAV4s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Toyota RAV4 4.62 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 stands out as a practical compact SUV that had already become a familiar benchmark in the segment, and this model year adds meaningful updates without abandoning the formula. It brought updated styling with LED exterior lighting and a redesigned front end, along with more sound insulation and refreshed interior styling. Toyota also expanded the active-safety equipment, making automatic emergency braking standard and offering features such as lane departure warnings, rear cross traffic alerts, and adaptive cruise control with lane centering. For buyers who want a small crossover that feels well equipped and easy to live with, those changes make the 2016 RAV4 especially appealing.
It also benefits from the broader strengths that define the RAV4 name: strong practicality, a reputation for reliability, and a cabin that makes efficient use of space. The 2016 hybrid is a particular highlight, pairing a 150-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a trio of electric motors for 194 system horsepower and standard all-wheel drive, while returning up to 32 mpg combined. At the same time, the RAV4 is not trying to be the most exciting SUV in its class. The source notes that it is not very exciting to drive and can be noisy inside, and owners also mention that the ride can feel a bit rougher than some rivals.

I like the way they handle on the open road. The ride is smooth and the accommodations are extremely comfortable. The built in back parking camera is a great feature that comes in handy for numerous driving needs. Mileage isnt bad. The construction is solid. If you have a family and want to keep them protected, I encourage you to do some independent research on the chasis design and the safety features that Toyota puts into their vehicles. I will stick to Toyotas because of everything that goes into them at every level.

How much does the 2016 Toyota RAV4 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,182 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,401 |
| Year-Round High | $16,496 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,054 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +0.80% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 2,398 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2016 Toyota RAV4 a good car?
Yes — the 4.62/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners commonly praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, comfortable ride, and safety features, which fits a compact SUV that works well for everyday use. If you want a practical crossover that is easy to live with and well suited to family hauling or commuting, this model year lines up well with that use case. With 30.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Toyota RAV4 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with several drivers highlighting confidence in the vehicle over time. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used SUV you can count on for daily driving and longer ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by harder use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota RAV4?
At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus your condition check on signs of past repairs, uneven wear, and anything that suggests the vehicle has had a tougher life than average.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota RAV4?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,398 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,401, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Toyota RAV4's resale value?
The current average of $16,182 sits slightly above last year's $16,054.
That small increase suggests the market has stayed resilient rather than softening. For a future seller, that kind of stability can help preserve value because buyers are still willing to pay near current market levels. It also means you are less likely to face a steep drop if you own the vehicle for a few more years and keep it in good condition.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $14,818, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $16,182 average.
- It offers practical usefulness with strong cargo space and easy everyday livability.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price stability, owner satisfaction, and available inventory, the 2016 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core RAV4 strengths that matter most to used buyers.
