What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Camry?

At 46.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior body damage or multiple owners. Focus on condition, tire grip, and whether the equipment level matches what you want, since some owners noted missing newer tech in certain trims.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base setup is already well equipped, but higher trims add features like a more advanced audio system, keyless entry and ignition, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and a convenience package.
• Powertrain: The Camry uses a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder/electric motor combination with a nickel-metal hydride battery pack, and it is rated at 200 hp overall.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, lane-departure alert, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, a pre-collision system, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Entune Premium, and it includes USB and Aux inputs plus wireless charging on some examples.
• Fuel efficiency: The Camry Hybrid is rated at 40 mpg city and 38 mpg highway.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 46.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.38% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 Camry is a mature hybrid sedan with strong space, solid features, and a current-year update that keeps it competitive.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,269, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,941 average.
• It adds fresh styling, an upgraded interior, and expanded infotainment and safety tech.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $15,081, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $13,941 average.
• It is the final model year of the generation and feels like a mature, well-developed sedan.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and everyday usability, the 2016 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money while still delivering many of the same core strengths. If you want the most mature version of this generation and are willing to pay more, the 2017 is the alternative to consider.
