Is the 2016 Subaru WRX STI a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2016 Subaru WRX STI stands out as a focused performance sedan that blends rally-bred hardware with everyday usability, and its standard all-wheel drive plus performance-first setup make it especially appealing if you want a fast car that still works as a daily driver. It is not trying to be a luxury sedan, so you should expect a stiff ride, a tight back seat, and a modest trunk, but that tradeoff is part of its identity. With 29.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Subaru WRX STI reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2016 Subaru WRX STI’s appeal comes from its standard all-wheel drive, performance-focused hardware, and everyday usability, which can make it a rewarding car to live with if you want capability and engagement in one package. Its cabin also includes useful equipment such as navigation, Bluetooth, and automatic climate control, which helps it feel more practical than many performance cars. For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is tied less to the concept of the car and more to how hard it has been driven and maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Subaru WRX STI?

At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether the car has been in any collisions, since prior damage can matter a lot on a performance sedan. Put inspection priority on signs of hard use, uneven wear, and overall condition, because this model’s enthusiast appeal can attract buyers who drive it aggressively. Focus on the quality of the specific car in front of you rather than assuming all examples are equally clean.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Subaru WRX STI?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 214 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,426, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Subaru WRX STI's resale value?

The current average of $20,723 sits slightly below last year's $20,795.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable, which can help future sellers because pricing has not been swinging sharply. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you are more likely to preserve value than if you overpay for a rough example. The model’s enthusiast appeal also helps support demand, especially for clean, well-kept cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Subaru WRX STI or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a focused performance sedan with strong owner satisfaction and a stable price profile, the 2016 is a solid primary choice. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and prioritize the cleanest, best-documented example rather than chasing the lowest sticker price.
