How much does the 2016 RAM 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 7.22% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,690 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of trucks to compare.

Is the 2016 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2016 RAM 1500 earns a 4.88/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, spacious interiors, and strong performance, especially with the diesel option. The overview also points you toward its appeal as a truck that blends luxury with everyday usefulness, so it fits you well if you want a pickup that feels more upscale than work-focused. Good and great deals make up 32.4% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2016 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels practical, dependable, and well-liked for both work and family use. Reviewers also highlight its strong performance and power, which supports the sense that it can be a truck you count on over time. The expert notes reinforce that impression by emphasizing the EcoDiesel V6’s strong torque and the truck’s car-like air suspension behavior.

If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the truck’s equipment and maintenance history match its upscale mission.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 RAM 1500?

At 65.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage truck or one with luxury features. Focus on condition details that matter in a used pickup: interior wear, electronics, suspension behavior, and evidence of prior bodywork. Because some owners mention missing features and tech frustrations, it’s smart to confirm that every convenience item works as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the Tradesman work truck to the Limited luxury model, with the Limited adding unique grille treatment, chrome accents, 20-inch wheels, navigation, heated/cooled seats, a heated steering wheel, and full leather seating. The base trim is much simpler, while the higher trims add more comfort and appearance upgrades.
• Powertrain: You can shop the EcoDiesel V6, a base 3.6-liter V6, or a 5.7-liter Hemi V8. The EcoDiesel stands out for its strong torque and fuel economy, while the gas engines trade efficiency for more conventional power and towing capability.
• Safety package: ParkSense front and rear parking sensors and a backup camera are highlighted, along with a full complement of front and side-impact airbags. Lower trims do not get the same level of parking assistance, so feature content varies by trim.
• Infotainment: The truck offers a large digital center display, navigation, satellite radio, an Alpine stereo with 9 speakers including a subwoofer, and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity standard on all trims. The larger 8.4-inch touchscreen appears on higher trims, while the base setup is more basic.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoDiesel returns 20 mpg city/28 highway in rear-wheel-drive form and 19/27 in 4-wheel drive. The base 3.6-liter V6 is rated at 18 mpg city/25 highway, and the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is rated at 15 mpg city/22 highway.

Which 2016 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2016 RAM 1500 is offered in 4 trim levels: Tradesman, Express, Sport, Laramie.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the value-focused starting point, and it still gives you Bluetooth hands-free connectivity. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and don’t need many extras.
• Express: This trim adds a standard V8, a Class 4 trailer hitch, and a Uconnect 5-inch touchscreen. It’s the best-value pick if you want a stronger standard powertrain and more useful equipment without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Sport: You get body-color bumpers, HID projector headlamps, a standard air suspension, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen. Choose this if you want a more upscale look and more comfort-oriented hardware.
• Laramie: This trim brings heated leather seats, 20-inch wheels, and the ParkSense system with backup camera. It’s the right choice if you want a more premium daily driver with added convenience and parking help.

The safety-package content points to the higher trims as the ones that add the most useful parking assistance, especially the backup camera and ParkSense system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 RAM 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,690 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,474, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $17,474 sits slightly below last year's $18,834.

That softer pricing suggests the truck has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right number. For a seller, that means your best outcome will come from a clean history, strong condition, and desirable equipment rather than from expecting appreciation. Trucks with the right mix of luxury features and diesel appeal should still draw interest from shoppers who want a more premium full-size pickup.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2016 RAM 1500 earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content highlights a standard backup camera and ParkSense front and rear parking sensors, which are especially useful on a large pickup with a long wheelbase. It also includes a full complement of front and side-impact airbags. The main caveat is that this truck did not feature lane-departure warning or blind-spot monitoring, so you should not assume advanced driver aids are present unless you verify the trim and equipment.

Should I buy a 2016 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 stands out for its luxury-truck positioning, EcoDiesel availability, and car-like air suspension.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $15,895, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $17,474 average.
• It offers interior comfort, a strong chassis, and a broad cabin range from work truck to luxe cruiser.

The bottom line: If you want the more upscale and better-equipped truck, the 2016 is the stronger pick. If your priority is saving money and you still want a comfortable, capable Ram 1500, the 2015 is the value-oriented alternative.
