CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC

Summary
With 559 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,063, 36.9% of 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC 5 / 5 stars.
64.6% of 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC stands out as Mercedes’ more successful compact SUV replacement for the GLK, trading that model’s awkward styling and cramped feel for a longer, sleeker shape that brought better style and practicality. It shares its basic platform and many parts with the C-Class sedan and wagon, and its appeal is rooted in being a premium compact SUV that emphasizes comfort, refinement, and everyday usefulness rather than off-road toughness. The standard GLC also came well equipped, with features such as adaptive braking, a rear-view camera, a power tailgate, and electrically adjustable front seats.
For buyers, the 2016 model’s lineup was straightforward but varied enough to cover different needs. The GLC 300 used a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower, rear-wheel drive was standard, and 4Matic versions added all-wheel drive. The GLC 350e plug-in hybrid paired that engine with an electric motor for all-wheel drive and a total system output of 320 horsepower. If performance mattered more, the AMG GLC 43 brought a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 362 horsepower and all-wheel drive. The GLC Coupe also joined the range in 2016, offering nearly the same practicality in a more rakish body style.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The GLC does not have a standout reliability reputation, and owners have reported suspension and electrical issues, along with piston and cylinder problems on some GLC 300 models. It is also not aimed at hardcore off-road use, and while it delivers a smooth, relaxing drive, it is not especially fun to drive. Even so, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC remains appealing because it combines luxury-car polish, strong practicality, and a broad enough range of versions to suit both efficiency-minded and performance-focused shoppers.

I think this a luxury vehicle. Great for first time suv buyers. Jas alot of class but also can go decently fast..not as zippy as C300 smaller cars but I was impresses for suv. Glad I made this choice. Now it does hold less gas and its premium gas so pay bit more..no regrets!

| Change vs. Last Year | −10.68% |
Prices have softened 10.68% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 558 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC a good car?
Yes — the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC earns a 5/5 user rating, and its appeal centers on comfort, refinement, and everyday usefulness. It was designed as a premium compact SUV that prioritizes a smoother, more practical experience than the GLK it replaced, while still offering a well-equipped standard feature set. If you want a luxury compact SUV that emphasizes style and daily livability over off-road toughness, this model year fits that brief well. Deal availability is decent, with 37.6% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC does not have a standout reliability reputation, and the overview points to suspension and electrical issues, along with piston and cylinder problems on some GLC 300 models. Even with its comfort and premium feel, you should treat maintenance history and mechanical condition as especially important. For used buyers, that means ownership risk can rise quickly if prior care was inconsistent.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC?
At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on suspension, electrical systems, and engine condition, since those are the areas most worth scrutinizing on this model year. Pay close attention to how the vehicle drives, how the electronics behave, and whether service records show consistent maintenance.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 558 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.68% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 64.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,058, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC's resale value?
The current average of $13,058 sits slightly below last year's $14,620.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history rather than model-year momentum alone. Well-kept examples should hold up better than neglected ones because buyers in this segment tend to reward clean, well-documented vehicles.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.68% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $15,415, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $13,058 average.
- It leans harder into performance, especially in AMG form.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2016 is the stronger starting point because it costs less and has a meaningful share of discounted listings. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year and a more performance-focused character, the 2017 is the better secondary path.
