CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC

Summary
With 88 currently listed for sale and an average price of $7,702, 17.0% of 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC 5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC stands out as Mercedes’ more successful compact SUV replacement for the GLK, trading that model’s awkward styling and cramped feel for a longer, sleeker shape that brought better style and practicality. It shares its basic platform and many parts with the C-Class sedan and wagon, and its appeal is rooted in being a premium compact SUV that emphasizes comfort, refinement, and everyday usefulness rather than off-road toughness. The standard GLC also came well equipped, with features such as adaptive braking, a rear-view camera, a power tailgate, and electrically adjustable front seats.
For buyers, the 2016 model’s lineup was straightforward but varied enough to cover different needs. The GLC 300 used a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower, rear-wheel drive was standard, and 4Matic versions added all-wheel drive. The GLC 350e plug-in hybrid paired that engine with an electric motor for all-wheel drive and a total system output of 320 horsepower. If performance mattered more, the AMG GLC 43 brought a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 362 horsepower and all-wheel drive. The GLC Coupe also joined the range in 2016, offering nearly the same practicality in a more rakish body style.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The GLC does not have a standout reliability reputation, and owners have reported suspension and electrical issues, along with piston and cylinder problems on some GLC 300 models. It is also not aimed at hardcore off-road use, and while it delivers a smooth, relaxing drive, it is not especially fun to drive. Even so, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC remains appealing because it combines luxury-car polish, strong practicality, and a broad enough range of versions to suit both efficiency-minded and performance-focused shoppers.

I think this a luxury vehicle. Great for first time suv buyers. Jas alot of class but also can go decently fast..not as zippy as C300 smaller cars but I was impresses for suv. Glad I made this choice. Now it does hold less gas and its premium gas so pay bit more..no regrets!

The overview also notes that this model does not have a standout reliability reputation and mentions suspension, electrical, piston, and cylinder concerns on some examples. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk can be meaningful if you skip a careful inspection and history check.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC?
At 64.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on suspension, electrical systems, and engine condition, since those are the areas highlighted in the overview. Focus on overall maintenance records and visible wear, because condition matters a lot on a luxury SUV like this.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 548 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.99% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 64.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,190, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC's resale value?
The current average of $13,190 sits slightly below last year's $14,492.
That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help you if you buy at the right number. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and maintain it well, you may be better positioned to limit future value loss. A lower entry price can also make it easier to stay ahead of depreciation if you plan to resell in a few years.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 64.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.99% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $15,580, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $13,190 average.
- It is framed as a stronger fit if you want a luxury crossover with a performance edge.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if your priority is value, because the lower average price and softer market make it the more budget-friendly path. If you want a newer-year alternative and are willing to pay more for a different driving character, the 2017 is the secondary path to consider.
