How much does the 2016 Jeep Renegade cost?

Prices have softened 10.02% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,445 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Jeep Renegade a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Jeep Renegade earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its performance, style, affordability, smooth driving experience, high-tech features, and sharp design. That lines up with the overview’s emphasis on its distinctive personality and its ability to feel more memorable than many rivals while still working as a daily driver. If you want a small crossover with character and a more engaging presence than a typical commuter, this model year fits that brief well.

The market also shows 27.8% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Jeep Renegade reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The user feedback also points to a vehicle that feels smooth, practical, and appealing enough that many owners are happy with it over time.

The expert commentary adds a cautionary note: Jeep and Fiat both have reputations that can make ownership a gamble, and the powertrain warranty was reduced for this model year. The same review also emphasizes that the Renegade has substance and thoughtful execution, which helps balance the concern, but used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Jeep Renegade?

At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that the vehicle has been repaired after a collision. Because this model’s safety record and ownership costs matter to shoppers, condition should carry extra weight in your decision.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Trailhawk stands out with 8.7 inches of ground clearance, skid plates, hill-descent control, and improved approach, departure, and breakover angles. The Sport is the stripped-down entry point, while the Latitude and Limited add more comfort and convenience equipment; the Trailhawk is the best fit if you want the most capability.
• Powertrain: The standard setup includes a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder with a manual gearbox, while the optional 2.4-liter 4-cylinder comes with an automatic transmission. The 2.4-liter is more responsive around town, but passing power is limited when the vehicle is loaded.
• Safety package: The available Advanced Technology package adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear parking assist with rear cross-traffic alert. It is recommended on versions other than the basic Sport model.
• Infotainment: The Renegade uses a 6.5-inch display, and it does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Jeep’s Uconnect Access service adds voice text-message functions plus roadside assistance and emergency calling features.
• Fuel efficiency: The review cites 24 mpg combined as the EPA rating, while the test vehicle returned 21.4 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2016 Jeep Renegade trim should I buy?

The 2016 Jeep Renegade is offered in 6 trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Limited, Trailhawk, 75th Anniversary Edition, and Dawn of Justice Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry trim, but it is the most stripped-down version and is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment. It makes sense only if your priority is the lowest possible starting point.
• Latitude: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it balances everyday comfort with the ability to add useful equipment. The test vehicle’s available upgrades show how well this trim can be equipped.
• Limited: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and more convenience features than the lower trims provide.
• Trailhawk: This is the trim to buy if you want the Renegade’s strongest off-road character. Its extra ground clearance and hardware make it the most capable version.
• 75th Anniversary Edition: This is a special-edition choice for shoppers who want a more distinctive appearance and trim-specific appeal.
• Dawn of Justice Special Edition: This is another special-edition model for buyers who want a more unique look and limited-run character.

The Advanced Technology package is the safety upgrade to look for, especially if you are shopping anything above the basic Sport.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Jeep Renegade?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,445 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,702, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Jeep Renegade's resale value?

The current average of $9,702 sits slightly below last year's $10,783.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If prices continue to soften, future sellers may need to be more competitive on condition, mileage, and equipment to stand out. Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong maintenance records should hold up better than rougher ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Jeep Renegade safe?

The 2016 Jeep Renegade earns four-star ratings for driver and front passenger protection in a frontal collision, three-star ratings for rear seat side-impact protection, and three-star ratings for rollover resistance with 4-wheel drive from NHTSA. It also received an Acceptable rating in the small overlap frontal impact test from IIHS.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Advanced Technology package adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear parking assist with rear cross-traffic alert. That package is especially worth seeking out because the base safety story is mixed, and the rear-seat side-impact result is a notable weakness.

Should I buy a 2016 Jeep Renegade or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 stands out for its distinctive styling and genuine off-road capability.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $9,095, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,702 average.
• The 2015 is Jeep’s all-new small crossover with off-road chops and a decent powertrain.

The bottom line: Choose the 2016 if you want the stronger current-market value and a model year with broad owner approval. If your main goal is to spend less up front, the 2015 is the cheaper path and still delivers the Renegade’s core appeal.

How does the 2016 Jeep Renegade compare to the 2016 FIAT 500X?

Our experts score the 2016 Jeep Renegade 6.7/10 and the 2016 FIAT 500X 7/10. The FIAT 500X edges ahead on expert score and fuel economy, while the Renegade offers more listings and a lower average used price. If you want the better value and more inventory to shop, the Renegade has the advantage; if you want the slightly stronger expert verdict, the 500X is the pick.
