There are 1,404 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2016 Jeep Renegade a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Jeep Renegade earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its performance, style, affordability, smooth driving experience, high-tech features, and sharp design. That lines up with the Renegade’s role as a small crossover that brings Jeep character and a more memorable personality than many rivals, even if you’re shopping for something practical enough for everyday use. The market also shows 30.1% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Jeep Renegade reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its smooth driving experience and overall satisfaction with the ownership experience. The expert review also describes it as practical, affordable, and thoughtfully executed, which supports the idea that it can be a car you count on for regular driving.

At the same time, the expert review warns that Jeeps and Fiats are not known for reliability, and the shortened powertrain warranty adds to the long-term ownership risk for used buyers.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Jeep Renegade?

At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle feels tight and well maintained on a test drive. Because the Renegade’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been cared for, condition matters a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Trailhawk version adds the most capability, with 8.7 inches of ground clearance, skid plates, hill-descent control, and improved approach, departure, and breakover angles. The Sport is the stripped-down entry point, while the Latitude and Limited add more comfort and convenience equipment. If you want the best-value balance of features and price, the Latitude is the trim to focus on.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with a manual gearbox. An optional 2.4-liter 4-cylinder pairs with an automatic transmission and is described as responsive around town, though passing power is limited when the cabin is full.
• Safety package: The available Advanced Technology package includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear parking assist with rear cross-traffic alert. It is recommended on versions other than the basic Sport model.
• Infotainment: The Renegade uses a 6.5-inch display, and the available Beats audio system is a plus. It does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the 2.4-liter test vehicle returned 21.4 mpg in combined driving, versus an EPA rating of 24 mpg.

Which 2016 Jeep Renegade trim should I buy?

The 2016 Jeep Renegade is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Limited, Trailhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry trim, but it is the least equipped and is the one that cannot get the Advanced Technology package described in the review. It makes sense only if your priority is the lowest possible starting point.
• Latitude: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it can be equipped with useful comfort and convenience upgrades, and it sits in the middle of the lineup without pushing you into the highest-priced trims.
• Limited: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and more equipment than the Latitude, especially if you care about a richer cabin and more premium presentation.
• Trailhawk: This is the trim to buy if you want the Renegade’s most authentic Jeep character. It adds the most ground clearance and the off-road hardware that makes the model stand out.

The safety-package recommendation applies to versions other than the basic Sport model, so that trim deserves extra scrutiny if safety tech matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Jeep Renegade?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,404 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.27% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,837, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Jeep Renegade's resale value?

The current average of $9,837 sits slightly below last year's $10,842.

That decline suggests the Renegade has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it’s time to resell. The model’s distinctive styling and strong owner satisfaction can also help sustain demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Jeep Renegade safe?

The 2016 Jeep Renegade earns four-star ratings for driver and front passenger protection in a frontal collision from NHTSA, and three-star ratings for rear seat side-impact protection and rollover resistance with 4-wheel drive.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Advanced Technology package adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear parking assist with rear cross-traffic alert. That package is especially important because the base safety performance is a weak point, and the review specifically calls out the rear-seat side-impact result and rollover rating as concerns. The review also notes that the 2016 Renegade had not yet been rated by IIHS at the time, though the prior-year model earned an Acceptable result in the small overlap frontal test.

Should I buy a 2016 Jeep Renegade or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review highlights its distinctive Jeep character, strong style, and genuine off-road capability.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $9,262, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,837 average.
• It introduced Jeep capability in a smaller, more adventurous package.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2016 is the better starting point. If your budget is tighter and you’re willing to give up some of the current-year market advantages, the 2015 can still make sense as a lower-cost alternative.
