CarGurus Analysis: 2016 INFINITI QX80
Summary
With 450 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,368, 30.7% of 2016 INFINITI QX80 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 INFINITI QX80 4.6 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2016 INFINITI QX80 stands out as a full-size luxury SUV that blends strong capability with a long list of comfort and convenience features. It was part of the second generation, which was based on the Nissan Patrol and offered in rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive forms. For this model year, it used a 5.6-liter V8 with direct injection and VVEL variable valve timing, making 400 hp through a seven-speed automatic transmission, and it could tow up to 8,500 pounds. That combination gives the QX80 a distinctly traditional, body-on-frame luxury-SUV character that still emphasizes power and utility.
Inside, the 2016 QX80 came standard with a 13-speaker Bose audio system, leather seats, second-row captain’s chairs, push-button start, tri-zone climate control, an eight-inch infotainment screen with navigation, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and Infiniti’s Around View camera. It also offered available features such as a rear-seat entertainment system, blind spot monitoring, lane departure prevention, adaptive headlights, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and semi-aniline leather seats. The model’s appeal is easy to understand: it delivers a roomy, well-equipped cabin and a strong feature set in a large luxury SUV package.
At the same time, the QX80 is not without drawbacks. The source notes that second-generation models are known for poor fuel economy and a small third row, and owner feedback also points to premium fuel requirements and a price that can feel high for the mileage. Even so, the 2016 INFINITI QX80 remains distinctive for buyers who want a powerful, comfortable, and generously equipped full-size luxury SUV with a reputation for being well built.

How much does the 2016 INFINITI QX80 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,446 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,446 |
| Year-Round High | $15,838 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,846 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.84% |
Prices have softened 8.84% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 453 listings available, which gives you a moderate amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2016 INFINITI QX80 a good car?
Yes — the 4.6/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its power, smooth ride, and reliability, and many also like the spacious interior and generous feature content. In practical terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a full-size luxury SUV with a roomy cabin and a traditional body-on-frame feel. With 28.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 INFINITI QX80 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback highlights reliability, and drivers also describe it as well built and trouble-free over time. That combination suggests the QX80 can be a reassuring choice if you want a used luxury SUV you can count on for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained properly and not worn down by heavy use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 INFINITI QX80?
At 56.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can catch hidden body, suspension, or repair issues. Focus closely on overall condition, since a luxury SUV like this can vary a lot depending on how it was maintained and driven. It also makes sense to compare service records and wear items carefully, especially if you want a cleaner example with fewer surprises.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 INFINITI QX80?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 453 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.84% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,446, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 INFINITI QX80's resale value?
The current average of $14,446 sits slightly below last year's $15,846.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make future resale a little more sensitive to condition, mileage, and maintenance history. If you buy well and keep the SUV in strong shape, you may be better positioned when it comes time to sell. A clean history and solid upkeep matter even more when the broader market is already leaning lower.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 INFINITI QX80 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.84% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2016 is a solid choice if you want a well-liked, feature-rich full-size luxury SUV and you can find one with a clean history and strong maintenance records. If you’re especially price-sensitive, it’s worth comparing nearby years and focusing on the cleanest, best-priced example rather than chasing a specific model year alone.
