How much does the 2016 Hyundai Tucson cost?

Prices have softened 3.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,602 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson a good car?

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is a strong fit if you want a compact SUV that emphasizes comfort, design, and practicality over outright performance. It earns a user rating of 3.83/5 and an expert rating of 7.83/10.

The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Drivers commonly praise the smooth ride, comfortable interior, and reliability, and many also like features such as cooled seats and the panoramic roof. The Tucson’s roomy cargo area and available safety and infotainment technology also line up well with shoppers who want a small crossover that feels bigger and better equipped than expected.

With 35.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson reliable?

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is described as a model with historically solid durability, and Hyundai’s long warranty coverage supports its ownership appeal. Owners also commonly describe it as reliable, and the vehicle is associated with a smooth ride and comfortable daily use.

The expert evaluation also points to dependable long-term value, noting that the Tucson has historically performed well in durability and that its ownership costs should stay relatively affordable. It also mentions free roadside assistance for the first 5 years or 60,000 miles of ownership.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is the turbocharged dual-clutch transmission, which can affect owner satisfaction and may be the part most likely to create concern over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Hyundai Tucson?

At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a spotty service record. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, and any evidence that the transmission or safety systems have been repaired after an incident.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE is the base trim, while Sport and Limited add more equipment, including a hands-free power-operated rear liftgate on Sport and Limited models. The Limited also adds an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, a premium sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and Blue Link connected services.
• Powertrain: Every version except the base SE uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 175 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 7-speed EcoShift dual-clutch automated manual transmission. The powertrain is described as strong once moving, but turbo lag and low-speed hesitation are notable.
• Safety package: Every 2016 Tucson has a standard reversing camera. Sport and Limited models add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. The Limited and its optional Ultimate Package are required for automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and the Ultimate Package also adds lane-departure warning.
• Infotainment: Limited models add an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and a premium sound system. Blue Link connected services are also included on Limited models, with remote and safety-related functions available through subscription-based services.
• Fuel efficiency: The Tucson is rated at 24 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined.

Which 2016 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, Eco, Sport, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Tucson. It gets the core small-SUV basics, but you give up much of the added convenience and technology found higher up the range.
• Eco: This trim is the value-oriented step up if you want more equipment than the SE without jumping all the way to the upper trims. It’s a sensible middle ground for shoppers who want a better-equipped Tucson without chasing the most expensive features.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the hands-free power-operated rear liftgate and the blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. It’s the trim to target if you want a stronger mix of convenience and safety.
• Limited: This is the right pick if you want the most features, including the 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, premium audio, dual-zone climate control, and Blue Link connected services. It also unlocks the automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warning features when equipped with the Ultimate Package.

The safety package is strongest on the Limited, especially when paired with the Ultimate Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Hyundai Tucson?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,602 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,216, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?

The current average of $11,302 sits slightly below last year's $11,766.

That price movement suggests the Tucson has softened enough to create a more approachable entry point for used buyers. If you’re planning to resell later, the current market gives you a decent chance to buy at a lower basis than a year ago, which can help cushion future depreciation.

The model’s appeal still supports its value story, especially because shoppers tend to respond well to its design, comfort, and feature content. Even so, the softer pricing trend means a future seller should expect a market that rewards clean history, strong condition, and well-equipped trims.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Tucson safe?

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson is a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS and earns Good ratings in every crash-test assessment, plus a Superior rating for front crash prevention.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2016 Tucson comes with a standard reversing camera, and Sport and Limited models add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. The blind-spot system uses mirror-mounted indicators and an audible alert when another vehicle is detected in your blind spot.

The Limited trim and its optional Ultimate Package are required for automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and the Ultimate Package also adds lane-departure warning. That means some of the most advanced safety tech is not standard across the lineup, so trim choice matters if safety features are a priority.

Should I buy a 2016 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.94% compared with last year.
• It’s the redesigned year, with stronger styling, more cargo space, and better available safety and infotainment technology.

The bottom line: The 2016 Tucson makes the most sense if you want the redesigned body style, strong safety credentials, and a more modern-feeling small SUV at a softened used-car price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still find value in this year, but you should be selective about history and trim because the best-equipped versions deliver the most compelling ownership experience.
