How much does the 2016 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 4.93% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,184 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Honda Pilot earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, family-friendly features, and comfort. The available DVD player is another recurring plus, especially if you need to keep kids entertained on longer drives. The Pilot’s use case is clear: you want a roomy, practical family hauler with a car-like driving character rather than something built to feel rugged.

There are also signs of broad market appeal, with 33.6% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, family-friendly SUV that people feel good about living with over time. The review summary also emphasizes comfort and good gas mileage, both of which usually matter in day-to-day ownership. On the expert side, Honda’s solid reliability and resale are called out as strengths, reinforcing the Pilot’s reputation as something you can count on.

The main used-buyer risk is that a well-kept example matters more than ever, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Pilot?

At 58.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin electronics and safety systems work as expected. Because this model is often bought for family duty, you’ll also want to make sure the interior shows the kind of wear that matches the mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Honda offers five trims with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the higher trims add more upscale equipment and refinement. The loaded Touring example includes 20-inch wheels, LED running lamps, and a more premium interior presentation, while the base trims are simpler and less richly equipped.
• Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 makes 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, with cylinder deactivation for better efficiency under light loads. The LX and EX use a 6-speed automatic, while Touring and Elite models get a 9-speed automatic with auto start/stop.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes auto-braking, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. It is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, while blind-spot monitoring is limited to the Elite.
• Infotainment: Loaded models bring high-amp USB ports, a 115-volt outlet, an HDMI input for rear entertainment, Garmin-based navigation, and a 10-speaker, 540-watt sound system. Honda also includes Bluetooth audio and Pandora on upper trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD LX and EX are rated at 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, while FWD Touring and Elite return 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. AWD versions are rated at 18/26 or 19/26 depending on trim.

Which 2016 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the simplest way into the Pilot, and it makes sense if you want the core space and V6 power without paying for extras you may not need. It is the least expensive path, but it also leaves out much of the convenience and safety content that makes higher trims more appealing.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it opens the door to Honda Sensing availability while keeping the price and equipment balance more reasonable than the upper trims. If you want a family SUV with meaningful safety tech and a sensible feature set, this is the one to focus on first.
• EX-L: This trim is the right step up if you want a more upscale cabin and the leather-focused comfort implied by the name. It suits buyers who plan to keep the Pilot for a while and want a nicer daily experience without jumping all the way to the top trims.
• Touring: This is the trim to choose if you want the richer tech and comfort story, including the more advanced audio, navigation, and rear-seat entertainment setup. It also brings the smoother long-distance feel that comes with the higher-end equipment mix.
• Elite: This is the most fully equipped version, and it is the one to target if you want the most complete safety and convenience package. It is the best fit if you want the Pilot with the fewest compromises and are willing to pay for it.

Honda Sensing is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, while blind-spot monitoring is exclusive to the Elite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Pilot?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,184 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.93% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,643, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $14,644 sits slightly below last year's $15,404.

That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can make the Pilot easier to purchase now but may also temper near-term appreciation for a future seller. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can still protect value by staying ahead of maintenance and avoiding accident history. The Pilot’s family-friendly reputation helps support demand, especially among shoppers who want space and practicality.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot safe?

The Pilot earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the nonprofit group’s best rating, and aced every test with the top Good rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing includes auto-braking, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. A standard backup camera also offers three views for better visibility. Blind-spot monitoring is limited to the Elite trim, so lower trims do not get the full safety suite.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It pairs roomy family space with a redesigned body and stronger safety tech.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,496, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,644 average.
• It offers spacious three-row practicality for family duty.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $16,590, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $14,644 average.
• It adds more tech features and stronger AWD appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and family usefulness, the 2016 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can still cover the basics well; if you want more tech and are willing to spend more, the 2017 is the better upgrade path.
