How much does the 2016 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 5.13% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,137 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Honda Pilot earns a 4.82/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its spacious interior, family-friendly features, comfort, and good gas mileage. The overview also points to its appeal as an SUV with the easier, more familiar driving feel of a minivan-based design, which fits well if you want family utility without giving up everyday drivability.

With 33.3% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a dependable, family-friendly vehicle that many owners feel good about living with over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Honda’s solid reliability and resale, which supports the Pilot’s reputation as a vehicle you can count on for long-term ownership.

Honda’s cost-effectiveness notes also reinforce that it is a good buy if you want a well-rounded family SUV with strong ownership appeal. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t picked up hidden wear from family-duty use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Pilot?

At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this is a family-focused SUV, pay close attention to interior condition, electronics, and any wear that suggests heavy daily use. A clean-looking listing is not enough on its own; you want proof that the vehicle’s structure and safety systems are intact.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Honda offers five trims with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the lineup runs from LX to Elite. The lower trims are simpler, while the upper trims add more refinement and convenience, so the base version is the one most likely to feel light on features.
• Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 makes 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, with cylinder deactivation for lighter loads. The LX and EX use a 6-speed automatic, while Touring and Elite models get a 9-speed automatic with auto start/stop.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, auto braking, and lane-keeping assist. It is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, while blind-spot monitoring is limited to the Elite.
• Infotainment: Loaded models get up to 5 USB ports, a 115-volt household outlet, an HDMI input for the rear BluRay unit, Garmin-based navigation, and a 10-speaker, 540-watt sound system. Upper trims also add Bluetooth audio and Pandora integration.
• Fuel efficiency: The Pilot is rated at 19/27 mpg in FWD LX and EX trims, 20/27 mpg in FWD Touring and Elite trims, 18/26 mpg in AWD LX and EX trims, and 19/26 mpg in AWD Touring and Elite trims.

Which 2016 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the simplest way into the Pilot, and it gives you the core V6 powertrain and 6-speed automatic without the extra luxury and tech features found higher up. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and can live without the added convenience equipment.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds access to Honda Sensing while staying below the more expensive luxury-oriented versions. If safety tech matters most, this is the trim to focus on first.
• EX-L: This trim builds on the EX with the leather-focused upgrade implied by the lineup and is the better pick if you want a more upscale family hauler without jumping all the way to the top trims.
• Touring: This is the right choice if you want more refinement, including the 9-speed automatic, acoustic glass, and the richer tech setup. It is the sweet spot for buyers who want a more premium feel.
• Elite: This is the most fully equipped version, and it is the one to choose if you want the most complete safety and convenience package, including blind-spot monitoring.

Honda Sensing is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, while blind-spot monitoring is exclusive to the Elite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Pilot?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,137 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.13% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,760, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $14,836 sits slightly below last year's $15,638.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the Pilot’s value is still supported by steady demand, but you should not expect a rising-price environment. Well-kept examples should hold up better than neglected ones, especially if they have desirable equipment and a clean history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2016 Honda Pilot earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the nonprofit group’s best rating, and aced every test with the top Good rating, including the difficult small front overlap test.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes auto braking, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist. It is available on EX trims and standard on Touring and Elite trims, while blind-spot monitoring is limited to the Elite. A standard backup camera with three views also helps visibility.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.13% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings the redesigned Pilot’s stronger safety performance and family-friendly packaging.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,516, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,836 average.
• It is a spacious, practical family SUV with an older design.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $17,117, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $14,836 average.
• It is a family-oriented SUV with strong practicality but some compromises.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of safety, family usefulness, and current-market pricing, the 2016 is the strongest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money, but you give up the newer redesign and its advantages.
