Is the 2016 Honda Odyssey a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Honda Odyssey earns a 4.91/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, good gas mileage, and great handling. They also highlight the roomy design, sliding doors, and versatile seating, which fit the needs of busy households especially well.

That lines up with the overview: this is a family hauler built around comfort, features, and flexibility, with a strong emphasis on carrying people and cargo efficiently. With 36.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Honda Odyssey reliable?

Honda also backs the Odyssey with a 3-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core vehicle and more about whether a specific example has been maintained well and used gently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Odyssey?

At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple examples at similar prices. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of wear in the cabin and sliding-door hardware, since this is a family vehicle that may have seen heavy daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the only trim with seating for 7 instead of 8, and it lacks Honda LaneWatch and the 7-inch audio touchscreen found higher up the range. The SE adds rear-seat entertainment, a 115-volt outlet, SiriusXM radio, and the HondaVac, while the Touring Elite adds the most premium equipment, including blind-spot information and a wider entertainment screen.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 248 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It is front-wheel drive only, and the fuel economy is rated at 19 mpg city/28 highway/22 combined.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes vehicle stability assist with traction control, antilock brakes, daytime running lights, a rear-view camera, multiple airbags, active front head restraints, brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution, and tire pressure monitoring. Forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning appear on the EX-L, while blind-spot information is reserved for the Touring Elite.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch high-resolution display, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink and streaming audio, Pandora, a USB audio interface, and MP3 capability. Higher trims add an audio touchscreen, HondaLink with Aha, SiriusXM radio, HD Radio, navigation with voice recognition, and a rear entertainment system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Odyssey is rated at 19 mpg city/28 highway/22 combined, and real-world testing returned 24 mpg in mixed driving that leaned slightly toward highway travel.

Which 2016 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Odyssey is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, EX, SE, EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value entry point, but it is also the most stripped-down version. You still get the core family-friendly basics, including the Magic Seat, rear-view camera, and an 8-inch display, but it is the only trim with 7-passenger seating and it misses Honda LaneWatch and the 7-inch touchscreen.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 8-passenger seating, power sliding doors, push-button start, Honda LaneWatch, and a more usable infotainment setup without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SE: This trim is aimed at families who want rear-seat entertainment and the HondaVac without moving all the way to the top of the range. It is a smart pick if those convenience features matter most to you.
• EX-L: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale daily driver. It adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, a moonroof, power tailgate, heated leather seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
• Touring: This trim is for buyers who want the more complete comfort-and-tech package, including navigation, rear entertainment, fog lights, and an acoustic windshield.
• Touring Elite: This is the most fully equipped version, with blind-spot information, a 650-watt audio system, a wider entertainment screen, and the return of the HondaVac. It makes sense if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them.

The safety package expands as you move up the range, with forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning on the EX-L and blind-spot information on the Touring Elite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Odyssey?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and focused.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,486 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.87% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,278, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Odyssey's resale value?

The current average of $13,984 sits slightly below last year's $14,546.

That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can make the Odyssey easier to sell competitively if you price it realistically. The year-round range also shows that values have room to move, so condition and mileage will matter a lot when you eventually list it.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.91/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Odyssey safe?

The 2016 Honda Odyssey earns a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS and five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests, with four-star ratings in rollover testing for an overall five-star rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes multiple airbags, active front head restraints, vehicle stability control, antilock brakes, brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a rear-view camera. Honda LaneWatch is standard on all but the base LX, while forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot information are available on select trims.

The main caveat is that it lacks autonomous braking, which kept it from earning the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus rating.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.87% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.91/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a new SE trim and keeps the family-focused comfort, safety, and flexibility that define this generation.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,395, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,984 average.
• It emphasizes practicality, comfort, and family use with strong owner praise.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger shopping mix, the 2016 is the better primary target because it combines solid pricing, broad inventory, and strong owner satisfaction. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 is the better value-first alternative, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
