What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Odyssey?

At 55.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the only trim with seating for 7 instead of 8, and it lacks the 7-inch audio touchscreen and Honda LaneWatch found higher up the range. The SE adds rear-seat entertainment, a 115-volt outlet, SiriusXM radio, and the HondaVac, while the Touring Elite adds the most premium equipment, including blind-spot information and the widest entertainment screen.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 248 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is rated at 19 mpg city/28 highway/22 combined, and front-wheel drive is the only drivetrain offered.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes vehicle stability assist with traction control, antilock brakes, daytime running lights, and a rear-view camera. Forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning appear on the EX-L, while blind-spot information is reserved for the Touring Elite. Honda LaneWatch is standard on all but the base LX.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch high-resolution display, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink and streaming audio, Pandora, a USB audio interface, and MP3 capability. Higher trims add the 7-inch audio touchscreen, audio touchscreen controls, SiriusXM, HD Radio, navigation with voice recognition, and a rear entertainment system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Odyssey is rated at 19 mpg city/28 highway/22 combined, and real-world testing returned 24 mpg in mixed driving.

Which 2016 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?

The 2016 Honda Odyssey is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, EX, SE, EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the least expensive way into the Odyssey, but it’s also the most stripped-down. You still get the core family-friendly basics, including the rear-view camera, power front seats, and the 8-inch display, but you give up features like Honda LaneWatch and the 7-inch audio touchscreen.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more useful everyday feature set without jumping all the way to the upper trims. You get power sliding doors, push-button start, Honda LaneWatch, and the 7-inch audio touchscreen, which makes it a strong middle-ground choice.
• SE: This trim is aimed at buyers who want rear-seat entertainment and convenience features at a lower price point. It adds the HondaVac, SiriusXM radio, a 115-volt outlet, and a rear entertainment system, but those features don’t carry forward if you move up the range.
• EX-L: This is the trim to target if you want a more upscale family hauler with added safety and comfort. It brings forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, a power tailgate, heated leather front seats, and a moonroof.
• Touring: This trim layers on more comfort and convenience, including navigation, rear entertainment, fog lights, and an acoustic windshield. It’s the better pick if you want a more premium long-haul setup.
• Touring Elite: This is the top trim and the one to choose if you want the most equipment available, including blind-spot information, HID headlights, HD Radio, the 650-watt audio system, and the widest entertainment screen. It’s the most complete version, but also the most expensive.

The safety package is strongest on the upper trims, with forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning on the EX-L and blind-spot information on the Touring Elite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Odyssey?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,504 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.32% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,281, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Honda Odyssey's resale value?

The current average of $13,877 sits slightly below last year's $14,504.

That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than on broad market momentum alone.

Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than average, especially because family buyers tend to value the Odyssey’s practicality and comfort. Strong demand for a clean, well-equipped minivan can help offset some of the broader price decline.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.91/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Honda Odyssey safe?

The 2016 Honda Odyssey earns a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS and five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests, with four-star ratings in rollover and an overall five-star rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes multiple airbags, active front head restraints, vehicle stability control, antilock brakes, brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a rear-view camera. Honda LaneWatch is standard on all but the base LX, and forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot information are available on select trims.

The main caveat is the lack of autonomous braking, which kept it from earning a Top Safety Pick Plus rating. If safety is a top priority, you’ll want to focus on trims that add the driver-assistance features you care about.

Should I buy a 2016 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.91/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong safety ratings with family-friendly flexibility and a broad feature spread.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,400, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,877 average.
• It emphasizes function and family use, with a straightforward mission that still appeals to practical shoppers.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced buy, the 2016 is the stronger choice because it offers a broad mix of safety, comfort, and features at a softened price. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the more budget-friendly path, especially if you find a clean example with the right equipment.
